I'm going to be playing a 1250pt game this weekend and I was looking for advice on my list. I know I will probably be playing a mostly Uruk-Hai force and there will be custom scenarios which will be heavily objective based. This is my preliminary list: Warband 1(308): - Elladan & Elrohir Heavy Armour, Elf Bows - 1 High Elf Warrior Banner - 4 High Elf Warrior Elf Bow, Spear - 6 High Elf Warrior Shield, Spear Warband 2(240): - Rumil - 1 Galadhrim Warrior Banner - 3 Wood Elf Warrior Spear, Elf Bow, Throwing Daggers - 3 Wood Elf Warrior Spear, Throwing Daggers - 4 Galadhrim Warrior Shield, Spear - 1 Galadhrim Warrior Spear, Elf Bow, War Horn Warband 3(335): - Prince Imrahil Armoured Horse, Lance - 6 Knight of Dol Amroth Armoured Horse, Lance - 2 Warrior of the Dead Shield, Spear - 4 Blackroot Vale Archer Warband 4(216): - Erestor - 4 High Elf Warrior Elf Bow, Spear - 8 High Elf Warrior Shield, Spear Warband 5(150): - Glorfindel Armour of Gondolin, Asfaloth 1249pts, 53 Models, 16 Might The bows are in the list to pick off anyone holding objectives, the elves to outclass the Uruk-Hai with superior fight values, and Imrahil's knights(along with Glorfindel) are to take out archers and cap objectives. If anyone has any constructive criticism or questions, please ask. Thanks for looking. *edit: Miscounted Model Count* |

Why do you need a hornblower in an Elven force? I'd also make all of Imrahil's warband mounted. |

I'd agree, Imrahil's potential here is a bit wasted. You don't need them all mounted, but they should all be Knights and/or Men-at-arms, because they all treat Imrahil as a banner. Just MHO, but the Blackroot Vale archers are bung, with the worst Good Courage outside of Arnor and you can't even give them spears... or maybe I've just been lucky crushing them a couple times I'm sure you're trying to max bows, but I think you'd get a lot more out of a larger fiefdom hammer and leave the shooting to the elves. The three WE warriors with bow + throwing daggers doesn't make sense to me unless you were looking to dump points. |

There have been times I've failed courage tests with Elves(Rumil being too scared to charge a troll for instance) so a 20 point upgrade in a 1250pt force doesn't seem unreasonable. I would agree that at 500 or below it's a total waste of points but when it's less than 2% of my army and effects everyone, it's a much better deal. My opponent is quite likely to be running huge numbers of Uruks, Orcs, and Ruffians and I'm going to need a reasonable amount of troops to survive the never-ending waves of troops. I will however try out your suggestion and drop the ghosts and archers to up my KoDA count by a few. whafrog wrote: The three WE warriors with bow + throwing daggers doesn't make sense to me unless you were looking to dump points. That was exactly what I was doing. I had like 16 points left over so I added throwing daggers and spears to everything I could. They'll probably end up getting dropped now that I have a warband that isn't full. Thanks for the suggestions and please keep them coming. |

Poor Rumil, yes your argument about the hornblower makes sense. |

It's seems much more solid now. |

More solid, but...wow, only 51 models. Your opponent could field trolls, wraiths on fell beasts, etc., and still vastly outnumber you with orcs, or considerably outnumber you with poisonous Harad arrows. The thing about Imrahil is, he's the kind of hero that serves best as the centerpiece of an army rather than an add-on. His banner effect has a huge range, plenty big enough to encompass all your cavalry plus a couple of warbands of foot Knights and MAA too. So in a sense his potential is wasted, as you're paying a lot for it. You might consider putting Glorfindel in charge of the Twins' warband, and swapping the Twins for a Dol Amroth warband. In addition to getting more out of the banner effect, you also have the option of lending your elves some pike support, making them a very tough line to crack. |

The problem I have with making the force include more Dol Amroth troops is that I only own 12 mounted KoDA and 12 KoDA on foot with zero Men-at-Arms. While I(and my playgroup) are ok with proxying wargear, I'd rather not use some random models with pikes from my collection as MAA. I will take the suggestion under advisement in the future(probably using the Perry War if the Roses infantry as I despise finecast) and work towards it but I won't be able to do it by this upcoming game. As I said, I'm reasonably sure I will be fighting a mostly Uruk-based force so I'm not too worried about hordes. Thanks for the replies. |

Drop glorfindel or the twins for more soldiers, you already have two supper heroes you don't need another! I would also suggest getting a stormcaller, some magic support would really help you out. Especially if you manage to knock over all your enemies before a cavalry charge. |

So I played the game Friday morning. The scenario basically had three objectives that gave your teammate(who was playing on another board) an advantage if it was controlled at the beginning of a turn. The bonuses were +1 courage to all troops(stacking with War Horn), +1 to priority roll, and D3 re-rolls to win a fight(just like a banner). There was some miscommunication though between my ally and myself and we had both made lists that included Imrahil. Since I own a significantly larger number of models I volunteered to re-write my list. My last minute changes amounted to dropping Imrahil's warband and Glorfindel's warband, and including Legolas with 6 Galadhrim(spear, shield) and 6 Wood Elves(spear, throwing daggers, and a mounted Galadhrim Captain with 6 Galadhrim Knights(all with shield and bow). My ally was playing against Angmar with a mainly Fiefdoms force so I knew I would need to take the courage objective for him. He asked me which objective I wanted and I asked for priority as Elves with a war horn don't need another courage boost and my list was already full of banners. We were both able to secure these objectives the entire game. My opponent was in fact playing Isengard but he limited himself to only playing models that were painted. From what I remember, he ended up with 8 Warg Riders, Sharku, 12 Ruffians with bows, 2 Trolls, 8 Berserkers, 4 Crossbows, Mauhur, 12 Scouts, and a bunch of Dunlendings. The deployment was similar to High Ground or To The Death except all warbands had to be deployed no further than 12" from the board edge. The three objectives were set up midway between our deployment zones, one on the left(+1 priority), one in the middle(+1 courage), and one on the right(D3 re-rolls). I placed most of my forces in the middle and towards the left of my deployment zone and my Knights on the right-hand side. My opponent mirrored my actions. My foot troops easily crushed his and the Twins and Rumil were able to make short work of the trolls. The only problem I had was that I was a bit frightened of losing my Knights so I was unwilling to move into charge range of my opponent's cavalry. They still won the shooting war with the Marauders and Warg Riders but I somewhat doubt they made their points back(although I suppose tying up 2 warbands for an entire game should count for something). I feel either cavalry aren't very good or I just haven't learned how to use them most effectively yet. |
