That's an illegal army, as each elf hero can only lead 12 elves in sbg

He's got 2 Captains as well do it's legal in that department. however I think he violates the bow limit, depending on whether the sentinels have bow or not.

I tried playing wood elves once (I normally play high elves)

I got the most kills but lost the game because my army was reduced to 25%!

If you have not played wood elves before, pick your fights carefully!
If you lose the fight, your elf is almost certainly dead, but that's why they gave the shielding rule to wood elf spears...

You only need to drop one archer

You could spend the points on giving your captains bows
Or just one?

I'd suggest you can drop one or two Sentinels (at least one) and one or both banners and put the points to more WEs with spears. Keep a Hero or Captain near the generic Ents and use Heroic Combat to maximize their effectiveness. If you don't have a good chance of winning a Fight roll, shield. As mentioned WEs are soft and if you loose the Fight you are likely to loose a model, even against basic Orcs and Goblins.

Thanks for the advice :) I think I will get more elves with blades instead of spears though

The Elf Blade is great and highly needed to getting thru the heavier armor of many Evil models. The importance of spears is two fold though. First, it makes your single WEs on their own significantly more potent. The ability to roll two dice (Shielding) with their high Fight value means you can often use one with a spear to hold off multiple enemies until help arrives or to deny an area for a few turns. Second, the spears can back up (and thereby make more potent) the warriors engaged to a fight.

Perhaps an equal split of additional blades and spears? Your own play style will really dictate the most effective though so try out multiple variations.

Looks good- be sure to use the terrain to your advantage, and don't ever get stuck somewhere. :)

For tactics, take a look at the rivendell tactica in tomes of wisdom

I know it is for high elves, but the tactics at the bottom are very relevant to wood elves
