How to play Mouth of Sauron competitively?

As the title says, I just bought the Mouth of Sauron and I wish to field him competitively against my brother (who plays Wood Elves)
From what I have heard he is not that great but since I got him i really want to field him.
We play about 500 points matches just for your information

My limited experience is to use him as a low level combatant with supplemental magic to boost his effectiveness

Agree, and making sure he's mounted will probably help him survive.

Whenever I use him he's there to support a Wraith's magic. Soon as his will has run out, I charge him in. The F4 is a bit sad, but mounted he can do quite some damage against F3 enemies.

I liek the miniature and the rules but hes got so much competition its hard to justify him if youre concerned about min/maxing

For magic you can just take cheap wraiths, and for combat you can take your pick of about 10 better options.

Saying that, hes useful on a horse where he can transfix someone and charge in. You just have to be really careful with him, which is not something you necessarily want to be doing with a semi-combat character!
