Hello all,

As the title of the topic states, I am an old lotr player returning to the Hobbit sbg with focus on the new dwarves that have come out. I would like your opinions on my sketched up 500 point army list to see if what I have been tinkering over would actually be something decent. Here goes:

Army list 1: Army of Thror

Warband 1:
Thror
7 Dwarf warriors /w shield
5 Dwarf warriors /w spear

Warband 2:
Grim Hammer captain
8 Grim hammers
4 Dwarf warriors /w spear

Warband 3:
Shieldbearer

27 models, 6 might, 502 points

What do you guys think about this list as a starting force? there is a possible 3x9 shield/spear/grim hammer setup possible, with protected flanking grim hammers, while also being able to split the force in two decent sections.

Thank you in advance :)
regards,

Mortaal

I would change the ratio of Grim Hammers/Warriors w shields to six of each, give all the dwarves who can carry shields a shield. I would trade in the Kings Champ and remain true to the Ereborlist and scratch the Grim Hammer Captain for Dwalin and Thorin who are exactly the same points!

Best army list for new dwarves is Thorin, Dwalin, and Balin leading 28 dwarves with a shield or spear. Decent numbers, big defence, and 3 great heroes #scary

Do you mean LotR Balin or Hobbit Balin?
I honestly think that the LotR one with Durin's Axe is way better.

I meant the new Balin yes. True he is a better model but he is 40 points more, young Balin is cheap and has a handy special rule.

By young balin, you mean the one with the white hair and the wrinkles?
Or does the "Young Balin the Dwarf" model have a new profile?

Well basically we have definitely lat middle aged Balin (Battle of Azunilbizar) one more candle and its off to the old folks home Balin (as seen in the Hobbit AUJ.) and very close to pushing up the daisies but fitted with a mithril plated dyper Balin (LOTR miniatures series)!

Thank you for your comments so far, now that we have clarified Balin, what would be your thoughts about my specific army list?

regards,
Mortaal

I will alter you list based on what I take 8)

Warband 1:
Thorin w/ Orcrist, Oakenshield
6 Dwarf warriors /w shield
6 Dwarf warriors /w spear

Warband 2:
Erebor Captain w/ Shield
6 Grim hammers
6 Dwarf warriors /w spear

Warband 3:
Shieldbearer
couple of iron guard.

I replaced Thror with Thorin as they have exactly the same stats but Thorin is waaaay better because he is cheaper and can do more wounds to orcs etc. Oh and he can cause terror. I like to keep an even ratio of shields to spears if I'm playing shieldwall. Erebor captains are D8 and work out cheaper than a grimhammer captain.
Give the shieldbearer some iron guard/ khazads with the leftover points so he has a bodyguard of troops (mainly for the hold ground scenario).

Thanks for your view on the mattar, but I became so much in love with the Thror model that I can't get myself around using Thorin :P. I do however agree that the warbands would need equal division between models to make them function more properly, therefore my new list:

Warband 1:
Thror
4 Dwarf warriors /w shield
4 Dwarf warriors /w spear
4 Grim hammers

Warband 2:
Grim Hammer captain
4 Dwarf warriors /w shield
4 Dwarf warriors /w spear
4 Grim hammers

Warband 3:
Shieldbearer

if there are any more opinions on this list, feel free to post them :)

regards,
Mortaal

Do Young Balin, Young Dwalin and Young Thorin have different profiles or something?
