Post subject:  Sons of Denethor army list

I have written an army list (first time ever :? ) for an army of Gondor. It is composed of five warbands. For the expert army creators out there, or those who understand an army better than I, I want you to see what can be improved/changed/added.

Warband 1

Boromir, Captain of the White Tower with Banner of Minas Tirith
12 warriors of Minas Tirith, six with shield, six with spear and shield

Warband 2

Faramir, Captain of Gondor with heavy armour
12 warriors of Minas Tirith, 5 with shield, six with shield and spear, 1 with banner

Warband 3

Captain of Minas Tirith with shield
12 Citadel Guard, 6 with spear and 6 with bow

Warband 4

Damrod
12 Rangers of Gondor, six with spear

Warband 5

Beregond
12 Guards of the Fountain Court
Warband total

Army total is 954 points

My strategy is to use the warband 1,2 and 5 to do the main fighting. The archers to target weak models such as orcs, or gang up on monsters and in dire situations... Heroes. I will make use of the Fountain Guard's bodyguard rule on Boromir. Since it's likely he will last longer than most other heroes. Despite putting him in the thick of battle surrounded by his troops where they gain advantage of his banner. He'll be used to anchor a battle line or spearhead the enemy.

Please suggest any additions, changes and of course criticism. Are there any weaknesses that could be covered? Thanks for any help :-D

Now edited thanks to some suggestions. An extra 8 points has been added now, but in truth, I think more would be suitable. This is, as I forgot to mention is for a thousand point army.

950 points is a rather weird total.

Please remove the points listed other than the army total.

I'm not sure what you mean by "weird total".

why not 1000pts? I agree with blackblade tho, 950pts is weird. go for round numbers. I would drop the WoMT w/ bow and replace them with citadel guard.

Not a legal army, is it? Five warbands, 2 of which are all bows (Rangers and WoMT with bows).

Too many bows indeed.

Other than that I don't think Boromir's banner is worth it. Normal banner is half the price, and would leave him to fight as normal with a shield. The remaining points may just as well be spent on warriors that are F4 all the time, or Osgiliath Veterans: with both Faramir and Boromir in your army, those should almost always benefit from their special rule, which makes them much more efficient than those few warriors fitting inside the range of the Banner of Minas Tirith.

I'd also include some cavalry for some added speed (useful in some scenarios, and almost any battle) and punch as well, as now only the heroes provide much in that sense. Boromir on horseback with a couple of Knights should do nicely there. Or leave him on foot (powerful enough) and put his brother on horseback instead - he can even have a barded horse.
The Fountain Guard could use some shields, they're tough now, but not so against S4 enemies.
Finally, I'd swap some troops around - would rather have the elite soldiers defending major heroes, and major heroes being close to the expensive troops to complement them with a heroic action whenever necessary.

Your over the bow limit, and thos 5 missing points could upgrade WoMT to Citadel Guards.

I would personal change the WoMT with bows to Gaurds of the Citadel 5 with bows and 6 with spears. This will make the army legal, and give you more staying power.

Ah yes, I'll make those changes. I wanted to add some Citadel Guard.

I would suggest that they use Boromir as the hero for them to "Body Guard".

Agree, the extra D is what makes them worth it. Otherwise just take CG. I pulled the shields from numenorians from the last alliance kit, the plastic is easy to work with and they look pretty good:

Great work, I still have three of my unit of ten only undercoated. I must upgrade them with shields at some point.

Boromir's banner is good but it's a little bit mickey mouse at times considering the points. You should really be giving him a horse. He will butcher all when on a horse. The banner can allow him to go toe to toe with a mordor troll but Boromir shouldn't be risked against a mordor troll unless you are desperate. The banner is used well with elites, giving them a Fight value of 5. Perhaps osgiliath veterans would be good to have with Boromir instead.

Also, get knights with lances!!!! Max out on them with your remaining points. You won't be able to afford to get a whole heap to take the front line, but they will be very useful with their speed to prowl the back lines where they can effectively counter attack flankers and enemy warriors that break the line. Cavalry often get beaten when they are swamped so use them to kill the odd few who find their way around or break through. Very good at ensuring your line holds strong.
