Post subject:  First Evil army - Wargs?

Hi all,

I've always been a good player but over the years I've thought that it would be a good idea to have at least a small evil force for balance. I have got a small numbers of goblins but didn't really play them much cause I didn't enjoy playing them or the aesthetic.

Now what I was thinking was going for a warg army or at least a lot of wargs. Does anyone have experience playing with / collecting a force like this?

Thanks

Well, back in the old days I used to field a warg chief, 2/3 wild wargs, and 1/3 prowlers with bow. It was a really fun force to use and was actually rather competitive. However when the warband rules came out this was no longer the case, my main strength, numbers, was lost because warg chiefs are 75pts a pop so hoarding was less easy. However in the new Desolation of Smaug book an option has been presented to field infinite wargs and spiders who don't need a warband leader (but they do need a force leader allied in). So if you want to collect wargs, I would go for that.

Another guy you will want is Druzhag, because he is from moria you can field some warg marauders who are utter dirt and really hard to play against. My advice would be to collect the following models to make your 'core' warband:

Druzhag
8 wild wargs
4 warg marauders (really easy to convert)

Then choose an evil hero you like the look of, he/she/it can be as big or little as you want, it will be the only hero besides Druzhag in your list :p

Then collect as many fell wargs as humanly possible and spam your opponent to hell and back:)

I'm glad I could help but remember, they have to be 'FELL WARGS' from the hobbit range, NOT wild wargs back from lord of the rings! The leader does not have to be a warg either, as long as you have 1 hero in the army to be the leader you are good. In theory you could just have gollum and a million wargs.

You couldn't have gollum as independent heroes cannot be your leader ;)

I'm really tempted to try this for a laugh.

A Wild Warg Chieftain (converted with a new Fell Warg head) and 75 Fell Wargs for 750 points.

Sounds pretty excellent and exactly what I was thinking, gonna need to have a peek at that sourcebook next time I'm in a GW. Although would that mean I'd also need the hardback hobbit rulebook? I've only got the little one.

You would need the desolation of samug book I think and if the warg profile isn't in there, the profiles are on the Gw website.
