Hey guys!

So with quite a lot of evil models sitting in my house I've spent the last few weeks planning out playing as Good. I've toyed with the idea of building an artillery battery army-list out of Gondor. Obviously the center-piece to this army is using the trebuchet with adequate cavalry and infantry support.

However, I mean using it in the normal skirmish game as opposed to just siege battles. Does anyone have any experience in using the Battlecry trebuchet in a normal skirmish? On paper it seems like it has its uses with a nice AoE, but given that this IS a skirmish game, I can't picture big mobs of Goblins even hanging close together. However the sheer fear-factor might break up phalanxes and grouped opponents (I play against Easterlings a lot)

So what say you?

I say it's not worth it. Extremely limited capabilities and a huge point sink. The Gondor mini-ballista/crossbow would be far more useful

No...

Artillery will be next to useless in standard 'deathmatches'. 50% of the time you'll have to deploy too close to the enemy to even be able to get off one shot. Enemies will be able to get closer than it can fire first turn if they are clever.
If my opponent took a catapult, I would probably jump for joy.

I would spend those hundred odd points on something else 8)

It used to be not that bad before LOME. I remember bringing a mordor war catapult with captain and troll to a tournament. I won the tournament with three Massacres and one major victory.

In LOME it was great. Set up miles from your opponent and drop rocks on their head.... now you are likely to be setting up within your minimum range of your opponent so no point at all.
