My friend is thinking of making an army that is The Balrog and 3 Dwellers in the deep. Any thoughts? Can you tell me the total points cost? :gimli:

you should or your friend should buy the sourcebook really, only thing I can say despite I dont have that book is that despite they look awesome as a themed ancient terror type of army they are also very very very expensive point wise....

Im not sure of the total nor can I post it but I think he can play them and have room for more models in a 750 pt army.

Could the cot be put in terms of goblins and captains and such? We don't want to get the book for just these guys before we get them. How effective would that force being game?

How effective well it depends on the scenario.

Some like domination not good at all but a game like conquest of champions it would do well on because of the low model count of your army.

Although there will be some disadvantages of this

Depends on the scenario. In a straight up deathmatch to the last model, well. If youre playing a particular scenario, horrible.

Also the dwellers will be shot to pieces, being only defence 5. If you're playing elves, then that's about one dweller a turn.

Dwellers regenerate lost wounds in combat, and have fight 7, so once you are in combat you will (hopefully) do very well. You'd be about 125 points short of a 750 list with those 4 models though, and filling that without abandoning the 'demon' theme would be hard :/

Here is what I reckon your fiend should do:

Balrog
2 Dwellers

Gundabad Blackshield Shaman
2 Dwellers

That comes to a nice 750 and although the shaman is a soft target if he can lay off a single tremor (or cast shatter on a hero successfully) he will likely pay his points off.

I fought an army with Balrod, Durburz, 2 Cave Trolls and 4 Dwellers once. My opponent had the bad luck I was fielding the Company. 20+ Might against 3... No that didn't went well.

Now I do think against horde armies that it would do quite well. I mean you have like 3 Hurls every turn at least...

Don't worry about bowfire, it's so non-existent these days.

I have 12 dwellers to follow my balrog, though they are not the finecast ones.
I usually use 2-4 of them for 700-750 lists they pay for them selves

Well lets say I 12 elves with bows and that I deployed 24 inches away ,using some might maybe. That's at least 2 rounds of bow fire. The wound rate on elven bow vs def 5 is 2/9. That's at least 4 wounds. If your playing an army with any amount of range weapon, your force should start at least 12 inches away from the centre. I get really annoyed with the start an inch away from each other thing because even if you have 12 orc bows and your opponent has no shooting , then even 1 kill or wound of a hero will get their points back.

Thanks guys! Me and ,y friend usually just do straight up "slaughter the enemy" scenarios. He might get that army and book now to fight my dwarves.
