Hello, I am trying to make a good and effective Rivendell army for a tournament that is limited to 400 points. This is my idea of what that would be but I was hoping that I can get advice/criticism as I have not yet played the Hobbit version of sbg. No ally's please just Rivendell Elves.

- Elladan (Heavy armour)
4 warriors (Elven Blades)
4 warriors (Elven Bows and Elven Blades)
4 warriors (Spear and Shield)

-Elrohir (Also Heavy Armour)
3 warriors (Elven Blades)
4 warriors (Elven Bows and Elven Blades)
4 warriors (Spear and Shield)

400 Total

Unfortunately the Twins are a single unit, and can not lead separate warbands. I'd suggest Erestor and Gildor to replace them.

400 points is a really tough number for elves...

At 400pts for high elves I would advise
Arwen and Erestor as your heroes.

Or just go all hero.

400 points is a hard number for High elves but we'll see what we can do :)

Which heroes do you have access to for starters? You will either need one expensive hero with a single warband of 12 warriors or 2 smaller heroes where you can get just under 2 full warbands (I think, though that's using Arwen and a storm caller to keep the pts low)

Looking at your initial list, aside from needing that second hero, it looks good. I am trying out archers with elven blades myself soon. I would perhaps take fewer high elves with blades for more with spears and shields, shields are very valuable when you're outnumbered.

Also randomly, how are you making the archers with blades as I need to convert some up :)

I read on a forum that the twins count as separate Heroes for the purposes of warbands but if this is incorrect I would like to use Glorfindel as my Hero.

At the moment the heroes I have are Elrond, Gil-galad and 2 Captains. However I would Probably buy Glorfindel and Erestor at some point anyway so they are also options.

Also To make the Archers have swords I might take swords from my broken swordsmen (I have a lot) and cut the swords off and the hands of the swordsman and glue the sword together (as the hands a no longer joining the sword together) then glue them onto the backs of the archers (near the arrows) to make it look like it is strapped onto the back. (just an idea so far)

Any opinions on using Glorfindel and Knights of Rivendell?

Glorfindel is a beast but he cannot lead the Knights of Rivendell. Only captains, lindir and elrond.

KoR are amazing. The best cavalry choice for heavy cavalry. Bows, lance, shield, elven blade, F5.

I used KoR with Elrond and Lindir both mounted, and Gilgalad mounted, Glorfindel mounted for a while. It was rock hard but a touch vulnerable to monster attacks

What would be a good list for Glorfindel? (Just so I can compare it with a list with Erestor and Gildor)

Glorfindel will eat up a lot of your points at a game of this level, but if you're dead set on running him here's a potential list.

Warband 1 - 245
Glorfindel
Armour of Gondolin
5 High Elves
Shield
5 High Elves
Spear and Shield

Warband 2
Erestor
3 High Elves
Shield
4 High Elves
Spear and Shield

As you can see, taking Glorfindel eats up a lot of points but he can probably deal with anything your opponent throws at you, except for numbers. You could swap out various shields for elven blades on the front line too.

perhaps choose to have one elite elvern unit and then an allied one from a cheaper good force such as rohan?

And what about a possible army with Erestor and Gildor? maybe as the white hand said, maybe i could combine an elite melee warband with high elves and ally some less equipped wood elves with Haldir leading them?

That's much easier :)

Warband 1 - 212
Erestor
6 High Elves
Elven Blade and Shield
6 High Elves
Spear and Shield

Warband 2 188
Gildor
x12 Noldorin Exiles
6 with spear, 6 with elven blade

This really deals with your numbers problem, adds in some cheaper troops, and still lets you keep the high elves :)

What about Bowmen? If it was 500 points what would you change to the list? (the tournament rules changed to 500 points)

Things change a lot at 500pts. With High Elves you're not really going to get 3 warbands unless you go for the cheapest heroes possible; Arwen and two stormcallers, and this leaves you with very low stores of might for heroic moves. With this in mind I'd suggest upgrading either Gildor or Erestor to Glorfindel or maybe Elladan & Elrohir? A potential 500pt list could look like this.

Warband 1 - 266
Glorfindel
Armour of Gondolin
6 High Elves
Elven Blade and Shield
2 High Elves
Spear and Shield
4 High Elves
Spear and Bow

Warband 2 - 216
Erestor
6 High Elves
Elven Blade and Shield
2 High Elves
Spear and Shield
4 High Elves
Spear and Bow

With a list like this containing everything you wanted, there's still 18points to spare. You could do quite a few things with what's left over. You could drop a soldier and add in a banner to one of the warbands, put Glorfindel on a horse and give more soldiers spears just to make them more flexible.
