Hi All I will be facing an Angmar army on wednesday (also at 500 points). I don't know which style of points match we will be facing. I have an inkling my opponent will use orcs with a banner and a shaman, as he has used that before - but aside from that I do not know. I have chosen to use wood elves, as I haven't yet used them in SBG, and I've just been finishing up an army of them for WOTR. The army below adds up to exactly 500 points, and also works to the bow limit rule. Warband 1 7/12 Thranduil with Armour; Elf bow; 4 Wood Elf Warrior with Wood Elf spear; 3 Wood Elf Sentinel ---- Warband 2 11/12 Legolas with Armour; 6 Wood Elf Warrior with Wood Elf spear; 5 Wood Elf Warrior with Elven blade; ---- Warband 3 5/12 Haldir with Elf bow; 5 Wood Elf Warrior with Elf bow; Is this army functional/competitive? |

I like Sentinels, but 3 is too many in 500 points, one is probably enough. This gives you 50 more points to take more warriors and outfit your spears and blades with throwing daggers. |

I agree with him completely^ You can do Thranduil: 8 elf with spear 4 elf with bow Legolas: 1 wood elf sentinel 4 wood elf with spear Haldir: 7 elf with spear 4 with bow I think this is under 500 |

Thanks for the advice, both. I'm rather new to SBG, generally playing WOTR. Unfortunately that comes out slightly over, lord of the brown ring. My theory with having the sentinels was to make the most of their three free 'magic' songs per turn, trying to keep the enemy at bay for as long as possible. Since they also have bows, that gives me three warbands with a lot of bowfire. They also each have two attacks, and backed up by the spear-wielding elves gives them a third. This makes the first warband with Thranduil a solid fighting block. However, I have reformed as recommended; Warband 1 12/12 Thranduil with Armour; Elf bow; 4 Wood Elf Warrior with Elf bow; 8 Wood Elf Warrior with Wood Elf spear; ---- Warband 2 5/12 Legolas with Armour; 4 Wood Elf Warrior with Wood Elf spear; 1 Wood Elf Sentinel ---- Warband 3 10/12 Haldir with Elf bow; 4 Wood Elf Warrior with Elf bow; 6 Wood Elf Warrior with Wood Elf spear; This comes to 501 points, with 22 warriors. I haven't really had much luck with throwing weapons in the past, and can't actually fit them in! Does this make more sense? |

List looks good. Youll have a nice 14 bow shots at the beginning. |

Second list looks better. Personally I like TD, but I've also had games where I've spent the points and they made zero back. However, they do have a psychological impact that is hard to quantify. Ellorindar wrote: My theory with having the sentinels... I don't think you want them in front fighting, even spear supported. They are too expensive and soft to risk in combat unless you have to. They have a cloak, so IMHO the best use of them is sniping from cover (including behind other bowmen), using their songs to mess up enemy movement, or holding choke points by adding Terror to the holding model. |

Thanks for your help with this guys. as I said I'm quite new to sbg and drawing up a list is very different to putting Together an army for wotr. Units function very differently in the way they are built and contribute to the overall army |
