Has anyone used or thought of using an entire army of just archers? Going of 750 points I've made this list. Will it be effective or a walk over force? Regardless I think it will be interesting to play and any advice is welcome!

Warband 1
Malbeth - 80
6 Rangers of Arnor with Bows - 48
6 Rangers of Arnor with Bows and Spears - 54

Warband 2
Ranger of the North with Spear - 26

Warband 3
Ranger of the North on Horse - 31

Warband 4
Ranger of the North on Horse - 31

Warband 5
Rivendell Knight Captain on horse with Shield - 90
4 Rivendell Knights with Shield - 88
1 Rivendell Knight with Shield and Banner - 47

Warband 6
Taurial - 90
12 Mirkwood Rangers - 168

Total - 753

34 Bows all up all hitting on 3s with 19 Elf Bows
Strong Cavalry, 8 horses
Malbeth 5+ saves
Taurial horde madness

Yup, already done this and won with it. But it was at 1000pts.

Was:

Legolas w/ cloak
11 rangers

Tauriel
10 rangers

Halbarac
12 RoA 6w/ spear

Arathorn
12 RoA 6 w/ spear

2 dunedain
2 RoN w/ spear
2 RoN w/ horse

Practically tabled my opponent just with bow fire 8) will probably take a similar list to ToS in the summer.

You haven't tried the Knights of Rivendell? So far I've found them very affective but they dramastically decrease your numbers.
Good to hear it works at least!!!

Looks pretty good I guess. I'd personally rather just make an elf army because its the same thing with better bows. I don't find the strength two bows to do much of anything.

Knights of rivendell are too expensive for my lightning.

And the armor do surprisingly well, in my game they got just as many kills as the elves, mainly because against D6 they both wound on sixes. Also all elves is very expensive and again kills the numbers. Finally, the RoN provide lots of cheap might points.

True but then your numbers would be very small as you'd have to just take Mirkwood rangers to have 100% bows. Even if strength 2 bows aren't super effective this much shooting should definitely thin down the enemy before CQC

Yep, lightning's definitely been expensive these days, Zeus is always harping on about it.

Back on topic, I am wondering, why would you want to fight with an all-bow list. If you destroy your opponents so easily, then surely the game won't be much fun? Or does it take on a cat and mouse mentality? I am wondering cause it seems an interesting gameplay development after bows have been reduced in power by move penalties.

Oops...obviously the iPad knows best...*liking lol.

It's not a dead cert to destroy your opponent. You have you know when to charge in, plus I'm not a fan of walking back while shooting. I don't consider that a sporting tactic. I'll stand still as long as possible then throw everything in.

Wow so many funny exotic typos in this thread, makes a fantastic read:
Dramasitacally
Taurial
Halbarac
affective
RoN
expensive for my lightning.
(just to name a few)
LOL

Anyway back on topic, bows are super powerful, and as much as the concept is really fluffy, it can be really frustrating for your opponent to 'suffer the slings and arrows' so for the sake of curiosity I would advise you try it out write a battle report and also to keep note of any changes in temperament your opponent shows.
I am more inclined towards the first list though myself though I am not too fond of the wood elves in there, while the arnorian and elven contingents seem to be fitting allies, what with the fall of arnor and what not.

I apologise  but RoN isnt a typo, it's an abbreviation for Ranger of the North. Saves typing it out every time.

I have a friend who uses 2 warbands of Rohan all mounted at 500 pts, all with bows, and two captains. They're unbeatable, as they are unoutshootable as they have a higher defence than rangers and uncatchable as they are on horses.
