Hello guys,
I will be attending my first ever tournament very soon and could do with abit of help with what I'm gong to take. This is the list I have picked so far so let me know what are the good and bad parts of it.

Warband 1:
Uruk Hai captain w/heavy armour and shield (leader)
5x Uruk Hai with shield
5x orcs w/ spears

Warband 2:
Mauhur
5 x Uruk Hai with shields
5 x Uruk Hai with pikes

Warband 3:
Uruk Hai shaman w/ armour
6x Besekers
5 x Uruk Hai w/ crossbows

Keep in mind that with the new rules spears cannot be supported by pikes. So orc sandwich does not work anymore.

The leader selection is correct. Though a better option is to max crossbows and put Vrasku with em. They are a really killing machine. I know its difficult to make that, it needs money :(

Dont include so many berserkers for 500 pts. If you have ferals use em! Simple uruk warriors are superb also, cause maybe you lack in numbers.

I agree Vrasku over Mahur is a good choice, but keeping the Berserkers (unless feral Uruk-hai are available) is the way to go with that shaman

If you're going to bring crossbows max them out. If you don't then don't bother to take them they're going to distract you from the main goal.

Second if you can get ferals or proxy the berserkers to be them do it. They're much better than berserkers. They're a huge point sink.

And it you have Mauhur take some Raider scouts they're worth it.

It's a good list, there's nothing particularly wrong, but tweaking it to your style is the main thing.

The one thing that I would say is wrong is having an Uruk Captain - they are good value and better defence, but Mauhur and Vrasku are better choices. 3 attacks from Mauhur is much more reliable than 2, his low defence doesnt matter so much as he should be winning the fights.

Having that many Beserkers is nice as it means you should be able to decimate a flank pretty easily. The downside is that you are missing out on crossbows and a banner by having so many, so play test what you think works. I think the banner is a stronger option than 2 beserkers as it gives a bit more survivability and the possibility of more damage.

Normally I would also recommend going max crossbows as you will probably run into someone else who has max, and they would be able to shoot you and dominate an area. However, going with more troops is just as good an option as you can chop them up better. I would stay with what you have in terms of xbows, maybe add 1 more if you feel like it though.

Anyway, dont drop Mauhur for Vrasku, drop the captain and then make Vrasku the leader.

Thanks for the help guys.
As far as the Orc sandwich goes that's fine I just included some orcs to increase numbers and still have a decent amount of stronger troops.
Unfortunately I don't have vrasku or and ferals so included them is out of the question really.
I do have a banner available but I thought got down the road of more troops especially for my first tournament would balance my newbie mistakes. I do have more xbows available but it's hard finding a place for them. Do I drop a berserker or 2 just to include 1 or 2 more xbows that won't do much shooting once the lines reach each other.
Thanks

It's 500 points. How about this?
W1:
Mauhur
5 Uruk-hai w/ Shield
5 Orcs w/ Spear

W2:
Uruk-hai Captain w/ Heavy Armour & Shield
4 Uruk-hai w/ Shield
8 Uruk-hai w/ Pike

W3:
Uruk-hai Shaman
12 Uruk-hai w/ Crossbows

Adds 5 more models and lots more crossbows. You should get Vrasku though. He's really good.

Vrasku plus maximum crossbowmen.

I repeat.

Vrasku plus maximum crossbowmen.

Thank you Narsil
I know 12 crossbows can be very deadly but with terrain maybe playing a part would taking 12 be worth it if say only 50/75% of them are able to get shots off due to terrain etc. that was my thinking behind taking 6 and substituting the rest for berserkers to carve through captains and leaders.
I am considering getting vrasku because he is worth it but time is against me at the moment to get everything painted ready for the tournament.

Consider it this way. The less crossbowmen you take. The less chance of hitting there is. Terrain or no terrain.

At 500 points with that Id do:

Mauhur
10 Uruk Hai with pikes
1 orc with spear
Shaman
10 Uruk Hai shield
2 orcs with spear
Uruk Captain
10 Uruk Hai with Crossbow

Unfortunately the model count is just too low to get in all your crossbows.

I like the sound of that last idea. Does nobody see any benefit of including berserkers then? Also will the shaman be able to give fury to the orcs?

Post subject:  Re: Opinions on my army

Beserkers are excellent, it just depends on if you want to go max crossbows or not - if you go max crossbows, you cant afford the beserkers or your numbers are too low and then you are not really maximising the amount of bows you can take.
Beserkers are excellent at getting kills and collapsing flanks.

Ferals are amazing. For future additions add ferals.

The Shaman will only give fury to the Uruk-hai. The crossbows are devastating so I lean more towards Narsils list. I love pikes being able to bring weight of numbers without risking many troops, especially if you have to engage a hero with your basic troops.

I might even trade the 5 orcs for 2 berserkers but that makes you break at 17 models rather than 19. Then again if you protect your shaman that doesn't really matter.
