How do these look for an all hero list for 800 points, few big hitters, some magic and then wound regen from Oin. (would have taken Dwalin over Gloin but would have been 10 points over) and which one is better Twins w/horses and armour Glorfindel w/horse and Amour of Gondolin Thorin w/ pony, Oakenshield and Orcrist Gloin w/pony Dori w/pony - cheap and 3A Saruman w/ horse - Bit better than Gandalf casting wise, but would blinding light be better Oin w/ pony - Wound Regen + re-rolls OR Tom Bombadil - his regen spell, that is all Glorfindel w/horse and Amour of Gondolin Thorin w/ pony, Oakenshield and Orcrist Dwalin w/pony Dori w/pony - cheap and 3A Saruman w/ horse Oin w/ pony - Wound Regen + re-rolls |

I'd drop Oin, your wound-regen logic is fine but in an all-hero list you'll be so heavily outnumbered that he won't be able to use his ability as he'll always be in combat. I tried him out with similar thinking in a Thorin's Company list at 500 points (Thorin, Gandalf, Gloin, Dwlain, Oin) and he hardly ever got the chance to heal anyone and was always my first casualty, great in theory but it just won't work on the table-top. I'd drop him and Dori from each list in favour of someone like Boromir of Gondor mounted, the F6 will make a huge difference against monsters, heroes and elves. Mounted Legolas might also be a good choice around that points level. I'd then go for the top list out of the two, the twins are absolutely amazing and great additions to an all hero force. The Saruman/Gandalf toss-up is an interesting one, Blinding light is huge for your army to ensure your horses reach his lines so I'd probably go for Gandalf. Look forward to seeing it at Throne of Skulls?!?! |

Thanks for the information on Oin, he looked so good on paper However, I'd disagree over Dori he has 3A and most of my other heroes have F6 or higher, he strikes me as being good against troops given his 8 attacks on knockdown and costing under 65 points I did try to fit Legolas in but could make the points work |

Oh Dori's great, no doubt about it, he's my 4th choice dwarf (Thorin, Dwalin, Gloin obis!) in an all-Hero Company list and people always underestimate him (blame the movies!)! I've just found that with all Hero there's a couple of key stats you need, namely Fight 6 and 3 attacks (3 Might is helpful to get you out of those unfortunate duel rolls too). Dori's definitely a great budget hero (particularly mounted) but his Fight 5 will let you down against elves and most captains and his 2 wounds, D5 and 1 Fate mean he can't take a lot of punishment. There's no doubt he's good and if you only had 60 points then he'd the obvious choice but if you're dropping OIn then upgrading him to a F6 hero (like Boromir of Gondor) would be high on my agenda! Up to you though of course - have fun! P.S. Just realised this is 800, not 600 and so clearly not for Throne of Skulls! |

I know it is difficult to follow theme in hero lists, but taking Boromir of Gondor (the profile represents him after he fell under the influence of the one ring, which was 60 years after Thorin died) is to much a think! Espacially because you can build (more or less) thematic lists around Thorin's company. What about this: Thorin's Company in the Hidden Valley: Thorin's Company Thorin Oakenshield with Pony; The Oakenshield; Orcrist Dwalin with Pony Dori with Pony Gloin with Pony Lindir with Heavy armour; Horse Elrond with Heavy armour; Horse Elladan and Elrohir with Horse; Heavy armour ______________________________________________ 800 Points; 8 Modelle; many might points You could also take the battle of the five army as theme. By the way, do the dwarfs get the bonus of cavalry on ponys? |

Tom Bombadil - his regen spell, that is all Glorfindel w/horse and Amour of Gondolin Thorin w/ pony and Orcrist Dwalin w/pony Legolas w/horse Gandalf w/ horse Ok removed Oin and Dori but had to remove the Oakenshield as well so I could fit Gandalf and Legolas in, so better or worse (or any changes you'd make) |

Give thorin the oakenshield back! Way better than orcrist (and I love orcrist) but the oakenshield will help massively when attacked. 6 dice shielding is immense. I know you cannot shield while on horse but any clever player will have dismounted you as soon as possible. |
