Hello guys,
After a great tournament at Stockport and being much more competitive than I ever expected I'm going to attending many more tournaments. I seem to have got abit of a competitive edge but still mostly want to enjoy the game rather than rely on winning to enjoy. I was wondering whether anybody had any advice when it comes to Uruk hai scouts. I love the models but I'm unsure if they are any good. I will probably buy them anyway but was wondering whether it's feasible to take them to a competitive tournament.

I am looking at getting some scouts as well.
You will need Mauhur. He will add like 2" to their move.
That will make them very maneuverable for sure.
With 8" at your disposal, you have lots of options.

So I say, sure, they are as viable as anything you put your mind to.

They're a versatile troop IMO, good at lots of things. You can upgrade their speed, give them shields or Orc bows. They have lots of battlefield options and look great

Just faced these guys in a battle, their 8" movement was a real pain because they can work fights out the way they want. A disadvantage would be a lack of spear support but given that they can just run round a shield wall means that's not too great an issue. Vrasku and Mahur would be the best leaders in my opinion, vrasku for his crossbow and Mahur for the ability to upgrade the scouts to 8" movement. Great allies in my opinion but wouldn't take an army of them alone.

i've wanted to start a thread like that for a while. uruk hai scouts have a great theme imo. there's just got to be a way of making them work without ruining the theme and allying in orc spearmen or anything of that sort.

i was thinking mainly shieldless cheap uruks to overwhelm the enemy with high fight and high strength models potentially suported by fury. another way would be some sort of conversion of uruk hai with pikes to appear more scout-ish.

also i would not underestimate the orc bows. yes they suck compared to anything else but you'll have the advantage on enemies withiut bows or horses, not to mention low defence armies. if you've got the spare points they're worth it imho. they also give vrasku some warriors to lead.

i'd like to hear the oppinions of other community members too. has anyone tried an army like that. i know i'd enjoy it regardless of the effectiveness...

I hope to try out a pure scout force soon. Just for the fun of it. Led by Vrasku and my converted Shagrat into a scout captain

Thematically, I love the Scouts. I've always just used them with Lurtz and Ugluk, but I plan on rounding out the Scout Captain quartet as soon as I can. Mauhur and Vrasku add a lot of tactical flexibility to a Scout force that the other two can't really match.

I didn't expect as big a response. I didn't think scouts were as popular as I thought. I do really like the models and the extra movement is a huge bonus but with a lot of players bringing cavalry these days I was wondering if the extra movement would be worth it

I brought them to a tournament they, with my guidance, did well in every scenario against every type of force. With shield they're a good price and the 8" movement baffles everyone and highly modifies their movement including fearful cavalry.

Take em. If you want I'd say even up to 20-24 in a force would be cool.

As an Isengard player, I've been building up a scout force for quite some time now. The offer a nice “skirmishy” feel to your games and it’s a nice change up from the regimented Uruk warriors.

For objective based games I usually throw in the scout drummer. 11 inch movement is beast (Marauder upgrade + drum) and you really feel like you are controlling the board. For games based on a lot of killing, I usually toss in the scout banner and flank.

Both types of play (rushing to objectives + flanking) highlight how it’s always best to avoid charging head on into enemies.

I agree with a previous poster: they aren't entirely effective on their own.

As I've always wanted a mob troop type for Isengard without purchasing Mordor orcs, I've had success tossing a blob of Wildmen into the fray while the scouts dart along the sides and flank/take objectives.

It’s awesome to see the marauder + wildmen combo on the board: Burn every village!
