So just wondering if galadhrim was a competative force in its own right lots of armoured elves or do you need to dilute it with unarmoured wood elve. Looking for around 500-600pts

I'm not expert on the Galadhrim, I like the Rivendell heavy armor elves.

I think Galadhrim can be competitive. Although the question of wether or not they need wood elves is situational, against some armies the extra defense is worth it. While against others it doesn't make a difference.

You dont need to mix in but Id highly advise it.

For example, when I make a 750 Wood Elf army I usually use more basic elves than ones with army.

Off the top of my head I use like 12 Galadhrim with Shield and Sword, about 4 with bows and a few mixed with spears and stuff. The rest are generally just wood elves with spears, bows, etc and heros.

I mean, realistically, for fluff, you could make a competitive armored elves only, but Idk....I imagine like them movie or with all armies, they have a mixed of different levels of armor in each battle.

At 600 pts Id do this:

Thranduil
12 Galadhrim with sword and shield
Legolas with armor
12 wood elves with bows with spears also
Haldir with armor and bow
12 wood elves with spear

Thats 600 exactly.

You have 18 shots per round. 24 possible spear supports/shielding

12 shielding with actual shields and elven blades. Those guys are to protect Thranduil and kill whoever he natures wraths

Thats a list with basic units so you dont have to buy crazy models to be competitive.

Better options ->
close combat lines (shields +swords/blades/spears) : Galadhrims
support lines (spears) -> wood elves
archery -> wood elves

The mix is the best possible combo.

Agreed. Organize it with hvy and light infintry. Depending on your goal, I would try something like this:
Hvy infantry
Rumil with galadhrim swd and shields
Light infantry
Gildor with woodelves equipped with throwing weapons and upgraded to have the extra speed
Support
Thranduil (old school) with woodelves carrying bows, upgraded to have the 2+ shot.
Something like that. Sprinkle in your spears as you see fit.

Rumil, Thranduil and Legolas! You've gotta be mad not to have these guys in a wood elf list.

The archers are always wood elves and spearsmen should also be always wood elves because they gain the special shielding ability for no cost. Front line can be a mix of armoured elves with shields and wood elves with throwing daggers.

I personally equip almost all the wood elves (archers) with spears because of the special rule. If your in trouble, just roll 2 dice and you only need a 5 or a 6, with your higher fight value you tend to win 90% of the time when shielding.

The original question was wether you can play Galadhrim on their own, so why is Legolas or Thranduil in every army posted?!

But this actually is the problem, its always just like: why taking Haldir if Legolas is better, or a stormcaller if you can take Thranduil.

With Rumil you have a overpowered galadhrim hero, isn't that enough?! The normal Captains are a good call, too. I think you could play a fluffy list with Haldir, Rumil and a stormcaller/captain on 500 Points. On higher point levels you can take Celeborn or Galadriel (if you want some witchcraft/a really big hero) or even the White Council Galadriel, who can not lead warriors, but, with the cheap heros mentioned before you can get a good model count anyway.
