Post subject: | All Moria Army Help |
I have recently acquiered these models: 60 Mgoblins (20xs&s, 20xbow, 20xspear). 6 Wild Wargs. 1 Cave troll. 2 Goblin Captains (1x Bow, 1xSword). Can anyone give me an Idea for, maybe, a 500 point army? I know I will have to convert some of the troops to captains or shamans so lack of them is no problem. Also no way to get another cave troll atm. Also, how do you play an all-out Mgoblins army? Do you just swarm? Is there anything I should be carefull of? Any different tactic? Thanks in advance |

Something like this should serve you well enough: Durbûrz 5 Goblins, shield 5 Goblins, spear 1 Cave Troll Captain, shield 4 Goblins, shield 4 Goblins, spear 3 Wild Wargs Shaman 5 Goblins, shield 5 Goblins, spear 1 Wild Warg Shaman 5 Goblins, shield 5 Goblins, spear 1 Wild Warg A bit low on Might (as the Shamans should be using theirs for channelled Fury), but a nice horde with a decent monster and some mobility to claim objectives or outflank/trap some opposing models. After some games, you can decide whether to swap a shaman for another captain, use some archers or get some elites. Bat swarms or Warg marauders could also be interesting (at this points level instead of the cave troll), the latter can even be converted from a wild warg and some spare archers. |

Thanks! I have one more question: I can acquire either a named Nazgul or the hero troll that is called Buhrdur and am thinking of using one of them to lead a warband, since they can ally with Nazgul/Angmar. So should I use either of them? |

Go with the troll to start. Learn more about magic before you use a nazgul dude. Thats my advice. Take it or leave it, but I was a good player and winning all the time and still sucked at magic. |

Yes sir! And he has 3 might. Tied for highest by a troll in the game. His defense isnt the safest though so keep him away from bows before he hits the front lines. |

Moria can be one of the best armies - it has all the right tools, you just have to balance it out well. Rumtap is right, get Durburz and a Shaman, they are the backbone of most Moria forces. My typical force is: Durburz 24 Goblins with Sword and Shield 23 Goblins with Spear 1 Cave troll 2 Captains with Shield 1 Shaman, who can spear support The troll tends to get left behind by a lot of people, but with hurl, he essentially turns your cheap old gobbos into cavalry (double strikes on the ground). You can swap a few gobbos for wargs, though I don't think much of the wargs, as they break up the army composition. Other units I would pick up: Warg Marauders Another Troll Another Shaman A few more goblins (or make weapons for them and convert the bow-goblins) These guys will get you a lot of force diversity, great hitting power and a different play style each time so its fun to play with. I would then try out spiders (with asharak if you want), wild wargs with druzhag!, Gundabad is a pretty cool theme, and the drummers & shamans are decent too, last on my list is the dweller, i just don't like him. Oh and Buhrdur is a great idea to take, much better than the witch king. |

Get a/some dwellers in the dark. Imo they are quite a lot better than cave trolls. |

Gameplay- They are a little cheaper, and their defense is totally weak. Unless you absolutely support them perfectly, and you avoid armies with bowfire, he will go down like a wet paper bag. The only times Ive seen them used the people told me they did nothing. $$$-You can get cave trolls on ebay for like 6-8 dollars, and Dwellers are like $25-35 even in bad condition on ebay. The main reason I bring this up is because you can get 3 or 4 cave trolls for one dweller. And if you only have one dweller, you are going to get him swarmed and murdered by any clever player. |

If you go with a named nazgul, try The Dark Marshal (mounted ). For a 1000+ game, get at least some archers: yes they hit on a 5+ but you need to be able to put pressure on your opponent as he will certainly be raining down arrows upon you! (mauraders or great beast of gore' ) again at high point match, Strategy: Use terrain and cover, wait until enemy closes in, then swarm w/ spear support, and withdraw. Get your troll in w/ as many goblins as possible and use heroic combat to press your advantage. |

Against str2 (most bows) and str4 (heroes and large amount of troops) they are equally as killable. Dwellers cost less, have extra movement, very high fv and courage, resistance to magic and the ability to regain wounds, all swapped off for one str and d. Money wise you're right though. They cost a lot of cash. |
