Hey guys I'm back after a while of Warhammer Fantasy and am looking for some guidance on a 500pts Army! My local hobby centre is holding a small Hobbit Campaign and I wish to enter and do my best! I kinda want to make my force not only look great on the battlefield but also preform reasonably well ( AKA Not losing all the time!) I don't know which one of these I like the most so if you guys could tell me what looks the most competitive and I'll probably start from there! Hunter Orcs Warband 1 Fimbul on Fell Warg (Leader) 6 Hunter Orcs on Fell Wargs with 1 Bow and 1 Two-Handed Weapon 6 Fell Wargs Warband 2 Narzug 12 Hunter Orcs with 4 Bows and 2 Two-Handed Weapons Warband 3 Yazneg 6 Hunter Orcs with 3 Bows and 1 Two-Handed Weapon Totals: 496pts, 33 Models, 17 Break Point, 9 Might, 10 Shots Galadhrim Warband 1 Rumil (Leader) Galadhrim Warrior with Banner 4 Galadhrim Warriors with Elven Blades 4 Galadhrim Warriors with Spears and Shields Warband 2 Galadhrim Captain with Bow Galadhrim Warrior with War Horn and Bow 8 Galadhrim Warriors with Bows Warband 3 Galadhrim Stormcaller 4 Galadhrim Warriors with Elven Blades 4 Galadhrim Warriors with Spears and Shields Totals: 495pts, 29 Models, 15 Break Point, 6 Might, 10 Shots Easterlings Warband 1 Amdur with Armoured Horse 12 Black Dragon Easterling Kataphrakts Warband 2 War Priest 12 Black Dragon Easterling Warriors with 12 Shields and 3 Pikes Totals: 490pts, 26 Models, 13 Break Point, 4 Might, 0 Shots |

I would use either of the first two lists. My two current armies and with very similar builds. I used Hunter orcs pretty much at every tournament last year and while I didnt win any, they were very competitive. They do lack the high defence and a shaman but those can be allied in easily enough. Galadhrim are quickly becoming a favourite again, reasonable defence and great heroes. I would recommend the knights for a skirmish factor at higher levels, I am currently using them and they are great, especially with a captain on horse. I would give the shields to the front rank dudes so they can shield if they get outnumbered and drop the elf blades. Unlikely to need them. Spend those points on extra shields. Wouldn't bother with a horn, elves have high enough courage and I doubt you'll face anything too terrifying in a GW store campaign. Spend those points on more bowmen, max sure they are maxed out and I would probably replace the captain with Haldir. Hope this helps and good luck! |

I would trade the captain and the hornblower for thranduil. If used right, thranduil is a mayor bonus for your army with his spells. |

Thanks both of you! SouthernDunedain I agree the first two look stronger because of the numbers and I will probably go with one of them. The low defence of the Hunter Orcs is a liability and so is the low fight value however with the wargs and heroes I think they could be fun to play without losing all the time! With the Elves do you mean Galadhrim Knights or Rivendell Knights? I confess I don't actually have the Free Peoples book and this Army was a sample in an old White Dwarf... I thought I'd see if people thought the Hunters or Easterlings were better before buying the book! And Bernardo while I have witnessed first hand the effectiveness of Thranduil I was trying to make a Lothlorien force not a Mirkwood one! |
