Ok im new to this, trying to get my head around how you build a warband etc.

my army is mahud. im only wanting to use mahud Minis and Half trolls, as keep it very themed. iv got

Mahud king (mounted and on foot)
4 Mahud raiders
24 mahud warriors
2 mumak Mahud (who be used as tribes masters)
4 half trolls.

If someone could help me work out a army list inc other minis if i need more that would be great. wanting around a 500/750 point force.

Quickly here...,
You can now spear support your 2HW Half Trolls. So do that for sure.
Keep your Raiders from being charged, so you can use the Impaler rule.
GBHL rules say that the Impaler hit affects both rider and mount.

Well themed Mahud is fun but not good at some stuff...
I would consider using the Betrayer on this list for a number of reasons, hes a bit themed though

what hes good at:
- hes a nazgul, cast magic its his best
- he reduces enemy courage giving a bit in case you break the enemy force is a bit easier for them to flee
- hes the hardest model to kill of the lot
- he gives blowpipes re-rolls of 2s to wound which its great (if you intend to use blowpipes extensively as its a S2 shoot, reducing the chances of doing nothing its usefull)
- hes good to wound and take out characters in case he wins combat
- and most important for any mahud army, hes courage 6, yes the biggest mahud problem is that your paying an "elitist ish" army with a very low courage value, this nazgull will ensure to keep em on the line.


Mahud´s 750pts

Warband 1
The Betrayer on armoured horse
4 Mahud warriors with shield
6 mahud warriors with shield, spear and blowpipe
2 Half trolls of Far Harad


Warband 2
Mahud King on war camel with war spear and shield
4 mahud raiders with war spear

warband 3
Mahud Chieftain with blowpipe and shield
5 mahud warriors with shield
6 mahud warriors with shield, spear and blowpipe
168

warband 4
Mahud Chieftain with blowpipe and shield
5 mahud warriors with shield

list 1 is heavy shooting with blowpipes, dont be hasty on jumping into combat fiy uo dont have to, can be sound manouver if cav is about to charge you as you move back a bit allowing them to stay in range for blowpipes 2nd line, if the result of the fight dont please you, you can always fall back the spear line and shoot instead of supporting(since your evil you can shoot on your own combats)

Also nearby the betrayer, you get better chances to keep the mahud´s in line and less chances the trolls getting charged at as they cause terror

Its a must for the reasons I mentioned above.

- helps your courage
- helps your magic defence/offence
- helps your minimal shooting
- helps your terror causing Half trolls
- and hes somesort of assassin to kill stuff noneless(although have to be mounted to benefit from more attacks)

First thing first, Mahud are a tricky bunch therefore You need to play around see what you want.

you need two more heroes really for the amount of model you have there, I recommend a taskmaster and a mahud chieftain

You need to learn to play in a balanced manner to be successful with Mahud, when you make your list take as many blowpipes as possible on your foot models

Blowpipes do not count as a bow and are therefore exempt of the bow limits.
Camels are a great offensive tool but never charge single models as there is a risk you may not be able to go into combat.
The impaler rule means you can really put some hurt on your enemies, but if you only charge that one guy and he dies your move is over and there won't be a combat, making you a target for counter charging.

Mahud carry shields, if things aren't going your way shield in combat.

Don't hesitate to ally in a monster too

this is the list I used at longbottom carnival tourney last summer, I won 5 out of 6 battles and placed 3rd.
700pts

Mahud king (leader)
-shield, camel, war spear
5 mahud raiders warspear

Taskmaster
6 half trolls
6 mahud, spear blowpipe

Mahud chief
-camel, warspear, shield
12 mahud blowpipes

Shelob

side note never bother with 2h weapons on the half trolls, they really need to win fights.

In six battles only one half troll died, and I killed him with a stray blowdart.

If you don't have any blowpipes, convert all your guys to have them.

In the right hands Mahud are lethal.

I have the point out that mahud chief or king are a deadly bargain on a camel and they got a very nice weapon, a club, a club if you win combat on a 4+ target get fight 1 and 1A for the duration of the next turn. Can be very nice vs monsters and who knows vs hard stuff to kill prove deadly and certaint autowin if you know the target gonna die next turn...keep in mind using their club rules to the max.

when you can inflict damage like a mahud king there is really no point stunning them, use your warriors for that, because if the king is mounted and has a warspear then it get's +1 attack and +1 to wound with S5

Imo, blowpipes are a must on the Mahud, because they don't count towards the bow limit and add a mid-ranged threat so cav can't sit 7 inches away.

For a pure Mahud force at 500:
2x Mahud Kings w/ camel + warspear + shield
4 half trolls 2x 2 handed weapons (split evenly)
2 raiders w/ warspear + blowpipe (Split evenly)
18 warriors 18x blowpipe, 11x spear, 1x banner (Split 5 spears+banner/6 spears)

At 750 pts
3x Mahud King on Camel w/ warspear
3x Mahud raider w/ warspear+blowpipe (1 per warband)
7x Half Trolls 2x 2-handed weapon (3 in leader warband, 2 in each of the others)
26x Mahud Warriors 26 blowpipes, 16 spears, 1x banner

Only 6 might, and a relatively low model count, but the list hits hard. Once combats start, enemy models will drop when you win fights.

If you are willing to break theme, throw in a wraith on a fellbeast and/or a Warhorn and/or a taskmaster. Mahud lists are low courage, so Warhorns are a huge boost; same goes for might with the taskmaster.

What you will want: More half trolls, more mounted kings, and a few more warriors
Drop the raiders for Half trolls and mount the kings.

Mounted Kings are one of the best hero options in the list; F5 is huge, as it beats standard infantry and matches most of the non-elf heroes, and with S5 and a warspear with 6 attacks to wound vs infantry or trapped monsters on the charge, not much will survive a round against one of them.

Tribesmasters are alright, but the extra points for a king are more than worth it.
Fight 4 means breaking even with standard troops, and losing out vs almost every hero you will come across. Courage 3 on a hero means relying on a relatively low chance roll to keep models on the table once the force breaks. Courage 4 with 2 will means you have better magic defense and a significantly better shot at passing the "Stand Fast!" checks.

right a question on blowpipes. if i equipt with blowpipes do they lose the other weapon ?

no, its an additional weapon, every model got 1 hand weapon equipped despite not saying on profile or unless its mentioned unarmed.

thanks. Just had a sweet idea of it hanging on the side of a ruin statue with the Betrayer. (mean would have to hack up a metal betrayer) might pic the kit up just to have a play around with the conversion idea.

not had much success with instant mould.

ok now do i need to add the extras to the model as in warspear to my King or are people ok with stock model with upgrade ?

just had a look at your log you have any unpainted pics of the conversions you have done, same idea with a raider as me use the Mumak mahud torso etc to make a warchief.
