So for fluff related reasons who would be able to fit in, with a Hobbit army? I know probably the Dunedain but I hate the profile. Id like to include several others but theyre all hard pressed to look realistic. What are the best options? |

really, no one else. Hobbits never had an army in the first place, so they had no need of allies. The Dunadans protected the Shire in secret, so that hobbit never even knew about them. you could ally some dwarven heroes, like Balin (who actually paid Bilbo a visit). Dwarves were often seen in Bilbo's cave and in book Bilbo leaves the shire with the help of a group of dwarves. Also, it is possible that hobbits sent a contingent of archers to help in the Battle of Fornost (fought by Gondorian, elves and the remains of Arnor) |

Well there are def. more possibilities. You can ally in elves, Gondor, Arnor and use warriors of lake town or dale to proxy men of rhovanion. The shire folk seldom fought, but according to shire history they aided with a company of archers the forces at the battle of Fornost. see http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_of_Fornost for more info. Hobbits did not only live in the shire but there are more places where they lived like in bree for example. You could form a bree militia with men and hobbits for example.. |

They can ally with the other free peoples of Eriador so Rivendell, the grey havens, the blue mountains, the grey company, the wanderers in the wild, the wizards and Breelanders. You could stretch the lore that far to be sure since the hobbits had, to a limited extent, trade with dwarves and the Breelanders and some of them were on speaking terms with elves. If the shire would have been threatened with open invasion during the third age it is likely for some or all of the above mentioned groups would have sent help. There were also hobbits in Bree and the Chetwood who we don't know much about. Making them a great place to go to add hobbits as allies to another list. Though I don't think you could get a whole Hobbit army out of the Breeland population. I would say your best bet lore wise would be a Breeland militia of sorts with lake town militia taking the part of Bree's humans. Then add some hobbits and a small company of dwarven merchants or mercenaries. That would make a pretty plausible list lore wise since bandits and worse attacked Bree and the surrounding lands during the War of the Ring. |
