Hi guys, I have always loved the Hobbit book and enjoyed the movies very much, flaws and all. As a result I have been inspired to create an evil force themed around the army that Bolg lead to the final battle.

This is the army I have come up with at the moment.

Bolg Castellan of Mt Gundabad on Fell Warg
6 Gundabad Orcs with shield
6 Gundabad Orcs with spear + shield

Gundabad Orc captain with shield
6 Gundabad Orcs with shield
6 Gundabad Orcs with spear + shield

Then to represent the Goblin mercenaries:

Goblin Captain
12 Goblin Town warriors

Goblin Captain
12 Goblin Town warriors


This all comes to 688pts at the moment. My questions are these.

1 what do people think of this as an army?

2. What can I add to fill those final 62 points which I have left over?

It looks pretty good not super competitive but fun non the less. The only think I'd suggest is, if you can, take that 62 extra point and refit on goblin warband into a Gundabad one instead. That way the bulk of your army will be the more reliable Gundabads and the goblins will be more of a throw away irregular unit like in the film.

If you want to give big monsterss.... I would recommend you to take a morannon orc captain(which is similar to gundabad) and lead a mordor troll...
It can be quite interesting with monster´s add onto that force...

That could be interesting. It definitely breaks up the repetitiveness of the army. I've gotta say i'm pretty tempted by this idea...

I did played at 1250pts and was an huge army... 30 goblin town stuff with 2 captains, azog on foot, gundabad captains 24 hunter orcs around 30 ish gundabad and 1 mordor troll chieftain and a mordor troll... The extra S profile and hard to kill combined with brutal power attacks will compensate the weakness of poor fight value of the orcs and allow you to make those orcs deadlier....
The casualties I suffered till my friend had to go was 27 dead stuff for me... in which 22 were goblins.... so they are weak really if taken part of a BoFA force without shamans and such....

At 750pts I would prob take this.
