Wondering if you can still make a Gondor horde army with the current GW catalog, i was going to make a Gondor army but i don't really like the idea of idea of relying on the heroes to be doing most of the heavy lifting(Aragorn and Boromir), so the other option seems to be a "Horde" army, but without low-point heroes, Denethor, Beregond, etc, it doesn't seems like you can make a very good horde army. Also, i generally like armies that uses tactics and its warriors/soldiers, so would a different army like Rohan or Lothlorien be a better option?

I bet if you go Faramir, Denethor, Damrod you can squeeze in quite a few Minas tirith warriors depending on your point range. I think Cirion is back on the website too? And he's potentially good in there too. I am sure you can but Beregond is the king of the hordes and he is OOP for now. Although with all the rereleases they've been doing maybe he'll be back someday.

Hello,

Without those few low-cost heroes, it will be difficult to make a Gondor horde army. Damrod, Denethor and Beregond are really useful. Mid-level heroes (such as Madril, Cirion) can also do the job, but they're obviously less effective to horde.
Faramir is a bit higher points, but without so much options, he's still a good choice. You can also try captains/kings, who are in the mid-range heroes ;)

But definitely, without the 3 low-points heroes, it is less effective :s

Rohan is difficult to use, because of the cavalry. When you try to make all-cav army, you have low numbers, and you're fragile. I think that relying on warriors only is difficult nowadays, due to their lack of versatility... A good player might be able to use it at his own advantage, I suppose? I've never play an horde army so I can't give the answer :p I'm one of those who like to have "a little of this, a little of that" in an army, such as elites, monsters,... in order to react to multiple threats :) And to have a pretext to collect all the minis :p

Sorry for the bad English :s

Getting those heroes are required to make the horde fun at 800pts,
Faramir, Damrod, Madril, Cirion and Beregond plus 60 warriors is a good start. :)

You can always check eBay for those cheap heroes. I also recently started with LOTR SBG and managed to get all heroes quite cheaply.

I'm also working on a similar army. Will be posting a WIP soon (once I've made some reasonable progress)! Great fun! :D
