Someone has been watching DoS! I still can't believe an army with no power hero and no killing power managed to do well. I don't play High Elves at the moment, although they probably are my next army. Tell me how the Cav + Infantry works, but I would drop Elrond, get a Knight Captain, drop Lindir and spend the rest on Gil-Galad, the Twins or Glorfindel. |

I haven't seen that DoS yet, but at first glance, I wouldn't think that force would do super well, but now that I'm thinking it through, I can see where it might be deceptively difficult. It's VERY anti-cavalry. And high defense, so fairly durable. And the heroes all buff each other, which is useful. If they hold formation, Elrond can keep his other heroes alive with Renew. I actually would NOT drop Elrond - he's incredibly versatile for his points cost, and he's pretty critical to the success of this force. I like the heroes as they are. My only question is where is the killing power with this force? Just Elrond, Lindir and the knights? Otherwise, there's very little Str 4. The Elves will win fights and survive, but I'm not sure how they're killing high defense enemies. I'd possibly want to drop numbers to get a couple of additional knights, but that might drop numbers too much. |

I've been wondering the same thing as "Men are weak", as I have an Elven army. My most memorable match with them was against the Iron Hills, and my friend (who I was against) had mixed up the Shield Wall rule so that I couldn't win a fight against them or shoot them without a 6 while fighting/shooting while the dwarves were in their Shield Wall. I eventually carved my way through after Elrond used a jutting out rock to jump into the middle of their "Shield Circle/Square" and casting Nature's Wrath. allowing my cavalry to slaughter them. I won, albeit with heavy losses, but it took a very long time for Strength 3 to get through Defence 8+. So my question is what is the best way to get some kills in with Elves? Is there some way to get higher strength models into my army? Bonus question: what is DoS? |

DoS is short for the Desolation of Stockport which is a large competitive tournament held by the Great British Hobbit League in England. As for who to kill with elves you have four options. Heroes, elven blades, nature's wraith with or without elven blades, and allies that have lances, axes, or high strength (eagles, Rivendell knights, dwarves etc). Most of the time a combination of two or more of these options will yield results like with your use of Elrond, knights and nature's wraith. Everything will have trouble dealing with Iron Hills though so don't expect to find some ace in the whole for dealing with them. Outside of Azog's Legion or dragon fire that is. |
