I always find the Black rote vale archers not worth it so I would suggest list 2 with some minor changes. I would drop the archers and exchange them for some more men-at-arms. The banner reroll they gain from Imrahil is fantastic. I would also mount Forlong. Mayby even swap Angbor for a mounted captain? |

I disagree with Reto about the Blackroot Vale bowman. A bow is a bow and they hit on threes. Better to have them around then get stuck with an Eagle or Rivendell Knights list you can't bring to ground. I don't know that you need some many of them though. Eight should do it I think. But Reto is defiantly right about the men at arms being the best support unit. Relying on the Axemen or the dead for that robs both of them of their own usefulness in a way. You can't take advantage of the two-handed attack or the high defense respectively. If it is just a choice between these two lists however I say take list one. If nothing else you can just the bowmen as front line cannon fodder and Duinhir makes a good general to keep out of combat while not becoming a total point sink. |

The Black root Vale as canon fodder is just my point for not using them :-p. If you have a Defence 6 army, the archers are a gift for your enemy. They die way to quickly. A Minas Tirith list can counter this by giving them spears, but the Black root vale lack spears. |

well since it is for a turney you have to think about what type of armys will be played. not every army is going to be D6+ foot troops. and there will most likely be monsters being fielded and having a reroll vs monsters can be a very helpful thing for shooting. i have lost quite a few monsters to those archers because of that reroll. |
