Really like how this is coming along. I see eBob's Lady Greensleeves in the church--so, is this church 28mm scale, or are you building it to be compatible with your 1/72 miniatures? Any update on the hussars, btw?

I have to say that the hussars are a horror to paint, as the paint just vanishes while you look at it and it's soft plastic so, paint chips of quite easily.

Though it may be a bit late to reply to such an old post, I must say I totally agree with you. It's very strange, too, as the other Zvezda mini's I've tried (samurai) all worked fine.

Thanks for the comments.

@Jamros: Yes, the church is 28mm, most of it is made out of Hirst arts blocks as I want to try a few things with them.
Right now I'm in the middle of a test week but after that, I'll practicly have summer vacation (except for handing in the books, geting to see the test results, etc)
So, after next wednesday I'll update quite regulary.

@Telchar: Good to hear the other miniatures don't have the same problem, as I really like the quality ot their sculpts.
Will try to bathe them in vinegar next week, that also worked for my republican roman minis.

As promised, an (small) update.

Now that my holiday has started, I'm casting a lot of bricks to finish the church.
The first batches have been glued in place as you can see in the pictures and more will follow very soon.
Image

Image
I've also been experimenting with diffrent types of trees and bushes, hope you like the results so far.
If you have an idea for making detailed bushes, please post it.
Here's the building for my Tharbad board btw, Will start on the roof tiles and weathering the building tonight.
(the brown beams are far to bright, right now)
Image

And I've also picked up painting (on canvas), for the first time since primary school. :o
If you have any tips on how I can improve, please post them, as I have absolutely no experience with this.
Image

Image
I'll now start blending the flesh tones and painting the actual mouth, aswell as adding a few more layers of paint where you can still see the canvas.
And, if you mix red and blue, you're supposed to get purple, any idea why I'm getting brown half of the time?

Comment are, as always, most welcome.
I'll probably update tomorrow.

(PS: I got a camera for my birthday from my sister, but I'm still learning to use it, so that's why some of the pictures are a bit blurry)

Here's another update,

Most of the hirst arts bricks are in place, so I'll probably have to do one more casting session, before starting on the roof and the tower.
Here's how it looks now.
Image

I've also done some work on the portrait.
the skin is far to orange at the moment, but I'll fix that.
Image

Would really like some feedback on it, as I've no experience with this.

next update will probably be there in a couple of days. (perhaps with some republican roman infantry. :D )

for the painting: I am not so much of a painter myself. But i think it needs more different colour touches. Maybe put some accents of light in it. Now most of it is looking quite monotome. Upper lip should be darker then the under lip and put the same amount of darkness from the upperlip beneath the under lip. Take some good looks at pictures for colours. There is more then u think in it.

Thanks I've tried to do what you said.

The painting is not yet finished, but I'll work on it later.
I especilly want to improve the background and the hair and jacket need a lot of work (as well as the mouth/ teeth).

And, as promised, here are the wip shots of the hussars and republican romans.

I really like painting those romans as they have a lot of cloth and they aren't that difficult (in comparison with other 20 mm miniatures).
So they make for a great change from the usual 28mm.

Comments and critisism (espacially on the painting) are most welcome. 8)

Nice work. For the background - mostly one side of the face is covered in more shade then the other part. To put an accent on the light side of the face u could make the background much darker on that side. And brighter on the dark side.

I like the look of these models - they look like they would be fun to paint. Any chance of some closer up shots of them ?

@ Garmenhord: Thanks, Wouter, that sounds like a good idea, I'll try that next time I'll work on the portrait.

@ DMS: Good to hear you like them, they really are a pleasure to paint (and they are very cheap).
I'll post some close-ups when I get home.

Very nice Hussars, and that portrait is really good for someone who hasn't done any canvas painting for years.
