I keep wondering if I have what it takes to sculpt a mini from scratch, and you guys keep doing such fantastic work that I just have to find out if I can too. In the next few days I'm going to begin the process of planning, through to completion. I'm gonna jump in at the deep end with one of these poses: I'd really appreciate any and all advice, however trivial it may seem as the most I have done is sculpt hair on a Space Marine. I really hope that I don't lose hope on this, cause its one of the most ambitious things I've planned to do. Here's hoping, eh? The model would be for use with Anima Tactics, and its of the character 'X-man' from the Marvel universe. I know Azure Rathalos will be rolling his eyes, as I am quite passionate about the character and his cancelling. Wish me luck! Note: About 10 seconds ago this was on the wrong board... hopefully no-one noticed.... |

Tbh, for the moment I think you're probably better off to start with the figure who is fully upright. You can learn proportions and whatnot much better off the standing figure than the crouched one. Best of luck! |

Yeah, I was thinking that. The bottom one is a nice pose though, but I stand a slightly better chance with the upright guy. I have some GS, and the GW sculpting tool... Anything else you guys recommend? |

Bleugh... I'm downsizing my project to just working with GS a lot more, I'm customising a Space Marine as we speak. I'll chuck some pics up in a bit. They will be bad cause A) I'm awful, B)I'm having to use the built in webcam . |

Perhaps use an armature, you'd be able to get the proportions right. |

As soon as I can summon some kind of income I'll be investing all these wonderful aides. Have some terrible pictures incl my disturbing mug: How long do you guys leave your GS before attacking it with sharp things? |

your right that is disturbing However you should be alright if you get one of those armatures, also there's some good tips on GS in "help with miniture figures" I think its called smoothing green stuff? There's a bunch of usefull tips and tools! (although I don't like x-men that much, I am looking forward to how this turns out, so keep the moral up! ) |

Yup, 8 foot tall genetically enhanced emo-marines... The robe at the back looks good. The hair, it's a bit Rob Flynn middleshed... |

Don't rush sculpting. Build up your skills gradually. I think that conversions are a great place to start. I once tried to sculpt a dwarf from scratch without having learnt the techniques. Ha! What a disaster that was. I still have the pathetic object to keep me 'umble. |

I was reading Raven Guard fluff and they seemed like interesting guys to convert... its a shame that I hate painting black. I like the special ops/ninja feel they have. |
