hey all, it's been a while again i'm in college now, following graphic design. the goal is to do game design in the end (sketching, drawing, constructing and animating game characters and environments, hopefully:) ) so we have to draw a lot in school. Now, I was always ably to find my way in photoshop, but now i'm starting to make drawings and cartoons in there as well with my wacom. Now, I've been itching to do a LotR drawing, so I came here for inspiration. I was thinking about something like a warrior of Minas Tirith sitting on a rock, shield besides him, inspecting his sword. But what are your ideas? There might be some cool stuff amongt them (nothing too big yet though, one or two characters per drawing, i'm just a beginner ^^) Hopefully updates soon (i'm a bit slow). |

So if you think something isn't right (size, shape, authencity ,..) please tell me now (ps: i just noticed i forgot the scabbard>.>) good reference photos are also always welcome <a href="http://s611.photobucket.com/albums/tt197/Alcaeus369/?action=view¤t=gondorianroughsketch.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt197/Alcaeus369/th_gondorianroughsketch.jpg" border="0" alt="warrior of minas tirith rough sketch" ></a> |

Very nice! I'm good at drawing, but I couldn't do people to save my life. You've caught the scene brilliantly! Can't wait for the finished piece! |

a small thing i made in between. i made this one in over an hour, while watching king kong you can really see that this is a quicky: <a href="http://s611.photobucket.com/albums/tt197/Alcaeus369/?action=view¤t=zerker.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt197/Alcaeus369/th_zerker.jpg" border="0" alt="uruk hai berzerker" ></a> in fact, i whiped my *ss at doing the zerker so much, that I like the pic more with just the background : <a href="http://s611.photobucket.com/albums/tt197/Alcaeus369/?action=view¤t=zerkerjustbackground.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt197/Alcaeus369/th_zerkerjustbackground.jpg" border="0" alt="just the background" ></a> now back to the gondorian |

Hey mate, to be brutally honest you need to borrow an anatomy book from the library and check it out. I'm going to be looking at doing Game Design as well after my Psych degree (I have the time ), and what I've realised is that concept sketches etc are going to need that realistic touch, especially if your trying to enter a profession such as this. Your colouring skills ain't too bad, but the things that animators and concept artists are looking for is obviously really good drawers - so far your doing actually rather well, except that your proportions are a little all over the place - you have seen this yourself with the beserker. Sorry to be harsh, but the easiest way to improve is to hear the hard things from the start unforuntately >< I know you can do it mate, keep on drawing away |

yeah, i know :p be harsh, that's the only way i'll learn i'm getting anatomy lessons in school now, and they are really helping. I haven't really been drawing a lot before I took this course in school, so i've only been really drawing for less then a year. (in the "anatomy" lessons, the teacher actually asked two of my drawings to hang on the wall ) but this one is in photoshop anyway, so i can adjust it a bit when i've finished it. thx for the comment |

I know you can do it mate, keep on drawing away I've been painting and sketching for quite some time. Grew up in the family of architects what can you expect. "here is a pencil go draw something" LoL. I've been hearing criticism on every single of my drawings. Even the ones that look amazing to me. Apparently can be better. But i find that that is the only way someone can get better. Only if the see how they can improve. And that is also what drive someone forward to creating something. Cause whats the point of doing something that has no challenge to it. Challenge is what give person a sense of satisfaction. p.s. I still hate drawing people. LoL I avoid them like fire. (whenever i can - on the paper i mean) I like the Gondorian though, the pose has a story behind it. That's what makes a picture great. -Silvani |
