There seems to be a new LotR video game on the horizon called Lord of the Rings: War in the North...

...and its rated M for Mature.

Warner Bros. apparently heard many complaints from LotR fans about the the ridiculousness of the children's LotR game, Aragorn's Quest, and decided to take drastic measures to make up for it.

I don't know how everyone on this website feels about M Rated games, but as for myself, I stay away from as many as possible, only getting an M rated title if it is imo completely amazing, thus overriding the inappropriate material (yeah, tell that to Jesus) or if it is part of a franchise I just can't let go of, for example, the Halo series, or Bad Company 2, the sequal to my favorite game, Bad Company (which is still my favorite, BC2 was kinda disappointing and is having a lot of bugs regarding new achievements).

So I'm not sure what this game is about, or what could be in it to warrant an M Rating--after all, the films were only PG-13, and the books are appropriate for young teens. I dunno, its a ways off, we'll wait and see.

Here's a link to the Gamestop page: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=77557

Btw, I believe M for Mature is equal to 18+ in the UK.

Hey,

didn't know if you had seen this.

http://www.one-ring.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18054

I'm pretty frustrated about this myself. My folks won't let me play M-rated games. :(

Well, I certainly feel like an irresponsible idiot.

Since you can't play M games, let me recommend Battlefield Bad Company, and Alan Wake. BC is my favorite game, and though I do not have Alan Wake yet, it looks AMAZING, I'm going to pick it up asap.

There are some M rated games that really are not that inappropriate, the rating is almost purely for marketing purposes (hardcore gamers, for some reason, love to sit in front of a television screen and bring the most inappropriate material possible into their house). Halo, for example is really not that bad at all (if I was esrb, I'd have rated it Teen), and BC2 Online is fine if you cut out the dialogue. I'm sure this game will be a ''low end'' mature game. If you can find a trusted reviewer, such as a Christian reviewer or GamerDad, who can verify that the content is okay and the game may not even deserve its rating, surely your parents will give it a chance.

I looked into the game a little more and it looks alright actually. I don't like the way the characters look but the premise and gameplay seem great. In the Aragorn's Quest thread I posted that I was waiting for a console LotR game to do justice to both the movies and the books--as they deserve more than hack n slashes and cruddy rpgs that deviate heavily from the source material. Hopefully, this may be it.

Well I guess that's it for this thread...sorry to make it unecessarily. :)

Hey, no worries man.

I actually have Battlefield Bad Company. Only first-person shooter I've gotten so far that I can stand :)

Adam Wake looks like it might be fun. I like a good suspense game. 8)

Maybe we could let this branch into a general video game discussion?

Nah, honestly, don't waste your time unless its LotRO or any of the trilogy (which are simple but very fun, ecspecially FotR). And seeing as you have a 360, I just wouldn't even bother getting any of the above, because if you're like me, you won't end up playing them much.

The Lord of the Rings video games are consistently disappointing. With a brand name like LotR, the developers automatically get moderate sales, but the games can almost never live up to that name. Seriously.

Out of all the ''modern'' LotR games, I'm missing Tactics, because I don't have a PSP, War of the Ring, because no one sells it anymore, and the LotRO expansions because I don't want to pay that amount of money for a game I will rarely choose over Xbox Live (even though LotRO is an amazing game. Its frankly just not worth it). I may skip Aragorn's Quest, simply because I don't want to buy a game for my DS, and I don't want to use my bro's Wii or PS2--and because it looks fairly bad. My main concern with War in the North right now is that M rating.

This could be an interesting discussion.

I have:
LOTR ROTK (PS2)
LOTR BFME 1 (PC)
LOTR BMFE 2 Collectors Edition (PC)
LOTR BFME 2 Rise of the Witch King Expansion Pack (PC)
LOTR The Third Age (PS2)
LOTR Tactics (PSP)
LOTR Third Age Total War (This is a Mod for Medieval Total War 2 for PC, both the game and the LOTR Mod are excellent.)

There we go... :P

LotR The Last Days? Mount and Blade? I've never heard of either, do share. I just googled the game, and the cover character looks like Aragorn.

Eorltheyoung--yeah, thats awesome news, I already started a thread about that quite a while ago. Did you see it?

Its pretty exciting, at least for me, but come mid-September, its going to be tough balancing LotRO, Halo Reach, miniatures, and an extremely rigorous school schedule...

Yes I do agree with you there. :P
