Post subject: | Reaper Alternative Council of Wizardy Figures UPDATE 6/18/11 |
This thread is for one of OR's most esteemed members who like many of us is on the hunt for non-gameswork shop figures for his WOTR armies. I've recently bedazzled him with some Reaper figures and he mention he's looking for the Council of Wizardry. So I've spent more time than I really should trolling through the Reaper catalog. I'm gong to post my findings here. GANDALF THE GRAY Everyone loves Gandalf and the sculptors at Reaper are no exception. They have many Gandalfs to choose from. SARUMAN THE WHITE Not as popular as Gandalf, but I think the first figure is perfect for him. RADAGAST THE BROWN I think Reaper has some great figures for him. As you can see I think all the wizards should look similar. CIRDAN THE SHIPWRIGHT I like the second one best myself. GALADRIEL She is a difficult one, but here are a few options. I like the Werner sculpt with the shell as the mirror. When I have more time I'll look for Elrond and the other wizards. Rob |

Cheers Rob. I like the last Gandalf, the first Saruman (I think the second looks like Gandalf) and the last Radagast. Just throwing it out there, it's not like anyone has a birthday coming up... |

Some of those are nice sculpts. I like the last Gandalf, as well. Neither of the Saruman's do it for me (the first one looks too Oriental to me). I prefer the GW Radagast over any of these alternatives (He's always been one of my favorite sculpts in the line.) I like both of the Cirdan figures, but the Galadriels are just a bit off but the last one would be my choice of the three. These are my opinions, not that you solicited them. |

Yeh I did the same thing, but more with the goal of finding some nice figs for the blue wizards. That first radagast one is really nice, seriously considering getting it. That and the last one for Sulrandir/Pallando, and I can just remove the small bird. Not too keen on the pointed hoods though. |

You never mentioned the Cirdan figures, I happen to have the first one laying about. Erunion wrote: Some of those are nice sculpts. I like the last Gandalf, as well. Yes a decent Galadriel has proven difficult to find in the Reaper range. Elrond Half-Elven is a another difficult figure to find in the Reaper range. Rob |

If you went with the hooded Cirdan, the other model might make a passable Elrond. |

Ah....I forgot about that scene. I have a tendency to forget the movie parts that don't line up with the books. |

Update I've just added another picture for Galadriel. Check it out all. I'm in the process of adding Elrond and the Blue Wizards. Rob |

UPDATEI've added another Cirdan figure picture ELROND HALF ELVEN and GLORFINDEL I've imagined both of them in their war leader aspect so I've combine them into one picture collection. GLORFINDEL IN COGNITO For the unarmored look. CELEBORN Just for good measure I've added Celeborn. I thing this is the perfect figure for him. Next up Blue Wizards. Rob |

I like that last one a lot, but I think it makes a much better Thranduil than Celeborn. It seems too, I don't know, woodsy and ornamented for how I always pictured Celeborn. Great fig though. Just occurred to me, you should probably include the Reaper names for these figs for people who want to search for them. The Reaper site has so many miniatures on it I have often found it hard to find a specific fig if I didn't know exactly where to go or what to search on. |

The last one is named "Wood Elf King". |

The first cirdan would make a good elrond imo, im not sure why but he just looks very similar to the rivendell elrond. Anyway i've been searching for an appropriate model for idrial and morwen from "lord of the rings the third age" and couldn't find one in the reaper catalogue's online, however alot of these models your look completely new to me, could you send me the link as to where you are finding these mini's, i thought i'd seen every reaper mini :'( |
