He may be, but he really isn't worth it. He'll be hitting targets on a 6 if he moves even an inch and a strength 2 bow won't exactly rack him up the kills :/

For variety i mean, and nothings hard hitting in goblins it's about numbers correct? If so then a large amount of bows (four per warband) has a reasonable shot at a 6

Well, there are no models for prowlers with bows, so generally people just use their goblin bowmen as prowlers with bows. They hit on a 4+ which is much better (5+ if you move) whereas there is no such prowler captain - meaning if you put your captain with your archers he will be a worse shot than them. His might will be more important on the frontline that with the archers.

Sorry to clarify I meant bows in general not prowlers, sorry about that :-D

I regularly use a Goblin Captain (his shoot is 4+) with a bow leading a warband of Goblin Archers. Their shooting isn't great, but against high value models like SKoDA or Sons of Eorl each kill from your 5-point archers is very useful. Sometimes it's worth burning a point of the captain's might to ensure a kill on such a model, kill two SKoDA and the captain has paid for himself.

That warband comes to 100 points. Against a similar horde they won't make a dent with shooting, so you may as well chuck them into the fighting, but against an elite army a few 6s here and there with your S2 bows will take more points off the table and give you even better numerical superiority when the fighting starts.

That's what I was thinking, sadly I don't think the goblin captain with bow is made anymore

The pack of 4 metal goblins titled 'armoured goblins' are legitimate proxies for captains btw, I forgot to mention it earlier :(

They are technically the exact same model as the standard goblins, they don't have their own profiles - hence why you can use them as captains.

Blackshields and Prowlers are really good however :)
