Might be a silly question, but in SBG, when the rules state that all of -insert name of warrior here- within 6'' of -insert name of hero here- count as being within range of a banner; does this mean that a hero is a banner or that if a banner is on the battlefield, then the warrior is within range of it?

It means the Hero 'counts' as a banner...not that the Hero IS a banner. The Hero himself (herself) is such an inspiration to those around that it's the same effect as having a Banner.
