I suspect that this may be a very beginners type question, but I am not quite sure how to treat hills in war of the ring. It is clear they provide an advantage to archers and siege equipment. In terms of movement, would they generally be treated as difficult terrain, or would you just agree with your opponent? For fighting there would appear to be difficulty getting bases into contact, unless the hills have very shallow slopes. Hills are not on the list of defensible terrain, though obviously this could be agreed for a particularly rugged one.
Any advice appreciated.
By the way, was there ever more than one edition of the rulebook. I picked one up off ebay, not wishing to spend £40. Are there old and new editions?

WOTR is relatively new - there's noly one edition of the rules. Hills are elevated terrain, archers on a hill can see and be seen by formations who are hiding behind formations or terrain features on the ground level.

Well, you should always discuss what attributes all the terrain on the table has with your opponent. Generally speaking, with my group hills are usually considered elevated open terrain that just blocks line of sight through it but with hills with steep sides you could consider them difficult or defensible. Some hills might even have sides that are impassible, you have to climb the hill/occupy the terrain from the other side. Basically, there are too many variables in how miniature hills are formed to provide generic hard and fast rules for "hills".

You can define the hill however you wish. It can be difficult terrain (woodland, mountain) or not. You could say only the top part of the hill is elevated or the whole thing. You could say the rises in the hill are considered difficult terrain.

If its not defined before the game I would assume the whole piece is considered elevated and normal terrain.

Thanks for the responses. It makes sense with the variety of possibilities for there to be no hard and fast rules. Just wanted to check.
