Allied Rangers and bow limit.

If I was taking an allied contingent of 12 rangers what happens to the other Rangers when I apply the bow limit rule ?

I'd have to assume you're talking about Grey Company rangers. If you ally them they still have to conform to the bow limit restrictions as everyone else, unless you take enough RotN or Dunedain to get the 100% bow limit. Example:

Gondor:
Aragorn King
6 GoFC + 6 KoMT
Faramir
12 Rangers of Gondor (all can shoot)
Captain of MT
12 WoMT w/spear, shield

Allied GC (100% bow limit)
Halbarad (I'm not dead!)
12 Rangers of Arnor
Ranger of the North #1
Ranger of the North #2
Ranger of the North #3

Sorry hithero, my original thought was if I had a Rohan force and wanted to take an allied contingent of 12 Rangers of Gondor (lead by Faramir for example) whom all have bows. Then apply the the 33% bow limit, I thought I would be left with 8 Rangers who are equipt with bows but are unable to use them.

whafrog: If I wanted to add Rangers of Gondor as allies like mentioned above, Faramir could only take 4 rangers with bows at a time like Grey Company ?.

You would have to house rule your Ranger example as models cannot drop wargear.

Riders of Rohan can drop bows, but they don't costa point less. Maybe thats what BW means?

Thats it, you cant drop wargear and you cant get the full points value with the bow limit.

Yes, if you allied Faramir like you said only 4 RoG could shoot. Technically you can't drop the war gear (whether it's RoG or RoR), it just doesn't count.

IMHO you'd be better off allying in GC than Faramir + RoG, even though you'd need 3 more RotN to get the most out of them. Too bad GC doesn't have a cheaper generic Ranger Captain.

Thats only a specific GT house rule for ROR only though, as I said, he would have to house rule his Rangers.

It was only a query, I wasn't sue if it worked on Rangers too, I just assumed B.W. was right.
