Hi guys, I used to collect LOTR warhammer when I was younger (about 5-6 years ago now) and ammassed quite a large army in my eyes, just under 10,000 points, but then I sold most of it and am looking to get back into it again. I noticed a lot of the rules seemed to have been tweaked and there's this new warbands thing. Are these rules covered in the sourecbooks or will I need to get the big rulebook? I was also looking for a few pointers in regards to where to go with my army, at the moment it looks fairly plain it will be a Gondor/Rohan army at the moment due to my models but hopefully one day dwarves or elves when I have a bit more money. After my sale I've been left with these guys: Gondor: Aragorn Boromir Denethor Pippin Faramir Isildur Elendil Bolt Thrower + 3 crew 5 knights + 1 banner bearer 12 warriors ( 4 spears, 4 bows, 4 shields) Rohan Eomer, Eowyn, Theodred, Theoden, Gamling 1 mounted captain 7 riders of rohan with spear 12 riders 1 rider with banner 1 mounted royal guard with banner a few scattered warriors Others Imrahil Ghan Buri Gan Balin King of the dead Elladan + Elrohir Elrond Gil Galad Glorfindel The rest of the fellowship 6 rangers of the north with spear and bow 2 kings of men Balin Farmer Maggot 4 hobbit shiriffs I have 12 orcs and 12 haradrim too unpainted and unmade though I never used forces of evil that was my brothers department and may just sell them to fund my new army. So basically, I've got a ton of heroes and cavalry and not much else. I'm thinking if I get another 2 boxes of basic warriors of minas tirith I can field a reasonable gondor army. Possibly with a box of rangers too? Not 100% on how this warband system works though. I'd really appreciate any input into what peoples thoughts on who I should be adding to this force on a reasonably tight budget. Sorry for the super long post. P.S, does anyone know of anyone that plays in Swindon/Wiltshire? |

Hi Voidwader, welcome back to the hobby. The rules have changed slightly, but in my opinion you don't need to use warbands. Also you don't need the latest Hobbit rules, they didn't change much from the last blue book set which covers most figures and you can pick it up on ebay at reasonable price. It's also a good place to buy more figures. Also White Dwarf is a waste of money as they don't cover lotr or the Hobbit any more. |

Warbands basically means 1 hero leads small groups (up to 12 warriors, some can be heroes), in order to make there be more heroes in battles. |

Also White Dwarf is a waste of money as they don't cover lotr or the Hobbit any more. what??? the Hobbit rules are the most current recommending a new person to old rules is ridiculous. He won't be able to play in a GW or anyone for that matter that has the new rules. Sure you could keep playing the old ones at home but that's not how this hobby works. War bands and the new weapon, and monster rules, not to mention archery, magic channeling, have all been changed and or added. The basic turn sequence and mechanics are the same, but even who is involved in a fight is different now. I recommend getting either the new hardback, or going on eBay and picking up the hobbit soft cover rule book. The softcover has no stats for hobbit models but has all the new rules. The hardcover has stats and rules and is a beautifully done book. Warbands improve the game if anything. They've helped speed it up with more heroes and no hoard armies on the board. You take one captain per (up to can be less) 12troops. This regulates the army of the dead from being over powerful as they only have the king of the dead to lead them there can never be more then 12in a Warband. |

Ahh ok, seems like I'm gonna need to shell out for one of the big books then. Unless they're covered in the army sourcebooks? As I was planning on getting at least the kingdoms of men one anyway. Judging from this I think I need at least another box of WOMT and probably some rangers of gondor too. I'd like some warriors of the dead or are they not worth the points cost now? |

Hey voidwader Both harfoot and I are a bit west, in melksham. But there is a group of us that play in swindon on Wednesday nights. Currently it is mostly WotR, but we have sbg players too, and the more that play Lott of any flavour, the better! |
