Hi Everyone,
Im pretty new to this and just would like some advice. I have painted a few moria goblins before (they came out okay) and i really want to get started again by buying the escape from goblin town set. My only issue is i like to know which paints i should use and im pretty sure it doesnt come with a guide for each unit/figure. How does everybody seem to know which paints to use and how to use them? Thanks for any help :)

For myself I just use what I like but if you mean to mimick GW 's pictures of models that they painted that is experience knowing what paints to use to get certain colors. Are you looking for a specific color scheme?

If you want to paint 'em like GW does, this is exactly what you need:

On the site they cover everything (step by step) thats in the EFGT box and more :)

For the goblins use the paints from the hobbit paint set. As for the company use the different shades of brown and include the blue, green and crimson for some dwarves like thorin and dwalin. And of course gun metal for the weapons

Thanks for all the help, I'm not worried about the colour scheme itself, just want things to look reasonably realistic :), it's mainly the Goblin King I was worried about painting...can't find much help on him anywhere

I’ve been using the guides from Tale of Painters mentioned above and I’m really pleased with the results so far (I don’t follow every single step exactly but it does act as an excellent guide).

If you’d like to see how the goblins look after Carroburg Crimson and Eldar flesh look then you can see on my WIP thread (http://www.one-ring.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=26156&p=339517#p339517). I’m planning on dry rushing with palid wych flesh next.

Mine was a white undercoat, followed by Agrax Earthshade ( I believe. I'm not 100% as all the brownish/skinish shades tend to blend together in my head. I know the Trolls were just a liberal coat of Reikland Fleshade over white, so I don't think it was that, and I'm not certain I owned Serephim Sepia at that point as I mainly use it for whites and golds.) In fact all my goblins were painted in the same way, it made things much easier, as the only real painting i had to do was weapons, clothing, etc.

Washes are a great way to cheat when painting.

I like how things look on those links, and agree that a proper base/wash combo is really a great way to roll these out and have them look good and consistent (without being 'identical').

I actually haven't started my EfGT goblins OR my Moria goblins (been collecting them new and used over time). I think I'm going to deviate from the norm and paint both with a consistent skin tone for the most part so they can be used together (thanks to the flexible allies in the new rules) or as separate forces.
