Post subject: | Lothlorien and Mirkwood Army List |
This is my first elven army list I've created an I was just wondering people's thoughts on it Warband 1 Thranduil king of Mirkwood (force leader) 5 wood elves w/spear 4 wood elves w/elven blade 162pts Warband 2 Legolas 10 Mirkwood guard w/bow 200pts Warband 3 Haldir w/bow 4 wood elves w/spear 4 wood elves w/elven blade 139pts 501pts, 30 models, 9 might. Is the Mirkwood guard upgrade worth it ? and also are elven blades that useful ? Also I believe that I'm aloud to take ten bows because you round down with the bow limit now ? and would Haldir defender of helm's deep model be accepted as normal Haldir in tournaments etc ? Any insights would be much appreciated. |

You would be allowed a maximum of 9 bows in a 27 model force (heroes aren't included in the count). Take the total number of troops (not including heroes), divide by 3 and round UP to the nearest whole number - that is your bow limit. The elven blades allow the option of fighting 2 handed but it is arguably better to save the points and add another wood elf instead. Similar stance on the Mirkwood Guard upgrade. The un-armored version of Haldir is good due to expert shot but a decent alternative is Rumil. |

Yeah I just looked it up in the Hobbit rule book and it says pounded up but gives an example of it rounding down for some reason ? And Rumil does seem like a beastly combat but I was going for as many bows as possible |

To answer your questions: IMO - Yes because each elf has an 83.3% chance to hit as opposed to 66.7. No because you seldom will use the 2-h strike a although it does also make you win on the draw with a 3+ rather than a 4+ It would have to be 9 as you only have 27 troops Yes, Halidr is Haldir. Just make sure to tell your opponent which you're fielding |

That's a nice looking list. I agree with what JamesR has said - I wouldn't use elven blades generally speaking. However, as your army has low D, it can get whittled down quickly, so depending on your opponent, you may have to take the risk and try to get some easy wounds in. Tournaments that I know of are 500 points or less, not 501, so you might have to drop a blade anyway. |
