Hello,

I recently decided to buy into the SBG, I realize it is rather late in the day but have no issues using 3rd party miniatures once GW stop support.

I am a little confused on rulesets, I have managed to track down the 2012 supplements (Kingdoms of Men, The Free Peoples, Moria & Angmar, Mordor and The Fallen Realms) but as yet do not own a rule set.

So my question is...what do I need? I see a 'one rule book' books named after the movies and of course the Hobbit, my thinking is the hobbit will have the most up to date rules but is that correct?

Also with the 5 books I do own, is there a point to tracking down 'gondor in flames' and the like?

Thank you for the help.

Yes, Hobbit is the current ruleset and easiest to find as it's still on print.

I have some of the older source books and while they are not rules-wise necessary anymore, they tend to have good scenarios and hobby material, which I like about them.

You don't need the source books or the One-rulebook but they are nice to have.

Hi, welcome to the party!

As stated, it is the Hobbit rulebook that contains the newest rules, but there is also the desolation of Smaug sourcebook (still on the games workshop web store) and the battle of the five armies sourcebook, which can be downloaded for free here:

http://www.games-workshop.com/en-NO/The ... id=1773174

The two sourcebooks mentioned above contains the rules for the Hobbit models not covered in the big Hobbit rulebook. The five sourcebooks you have acquired are all in use, bringing the total to seven sourcebooks and one rulebook.

As far as rules go, you should also download the faq's and errata's, which can be found here (scroll down):

http://www.blacklibrary.com/faqs-and-errata.html

I would also recommend you to go to the Great British Hobbit League's Facebook page. They have their own faq which covers problems not covered by GW.

This should provide you with all you need.

The older sourcebooks are outdated rules wise, but many of them have very good hobby content!

I hope this helps!

Thank you all for the tips, I picked up my 5 source books today and will look at the Hobbit books soon, I may try and pickup some of the older stuff for the hobby material.

Oh yes, miniatures...should probably buy some of those at some point :)

What armies are you considering at this point?

Youve got some good advice on your other questions, so I'll just hit this. The other sourcebooks (Gondor in Flames, etc.) do duplicate the lists in the 5 "army books" you have so in that respect you don't need them. On the other hand they do include some good fluff and additional scenarios so if you are into that you might want to consider them.
