I think the mines of Moria is a great place to start still. You get the whole fellowship in that box plus a good start to a Moria army. The cave troll will be amazing in your games as well.

Also you will need the Hobbit rulebook as these are the new rules for the game. So with that being said the Escape from Goblin Town is probably your best way to start the game.

Tbh it's only worth getting if you want to start a Moria army, as the plastic fellowship models are kinda pants. The only one I think is really decent is Gimli. The old LotR rule book is also a decent place to start if you are not looking to play competitively or in GWs at all. Honestly though, it depends what you plan on expanding into in the future armies wise, and how serious an environment you are looking to play the game in.
