Do Castellans of Dol Guldur count as heros? Meaning that i can take 'em as allied without some other hero?

Yes they are heroes because they have might will and fate, and so if there is no rule stating otherwise, they can be leaders.

Yes you can use Castellans as your Hero, but keep in mind they are limited in that sense. They have no Might and so cannot call anything heroic. They have Will but can't cast any spells and must spend Will every time they are in combat, so they risk being worn down. And despite their own decent Courage they can't call Stand Fast to help anyone else in the army. So they can fill the role of "leader" for purposes of army composition but will not be a very good choice for actually using in that role.

Just be sure to give them the Morgul Blade option. For only 5 extra points, if you're already sinking that many into a single "almost but not quite a hero" model you might as well have the extra threat it brings. A Castellan or two with Morgul Blades are enough to make almost any enemy Hero very, very nervous. 8)

I've actually never had luck with the Castellan's Morgul Blade taking out a Hero, but found the 5 points are worth their weight in mithril. The reason is that my opponents either work so hard to keep their key Heroes away from the Castellans that they serve almost as a repellent (which is great because you have a 6" - 8" ring where no major Heroes want to enter) or else my opponent has devoted so many resources to kill the Castellans that I have managed to get the advantage in the game by the time it's dead. So don't let it disappoint you if it turns you you can't actually kill anyone with it as long as it serves your greater path to victory.
