Just a quick query on monster hurl...

How do you determine the area covered/effected by the hurled model? Is it a simple straight line effect?
Or do you go on the size of the base of the hurled model, or the physical size of the model itself...

???

if you do the usual monster tactic - hit end of enemy battle line (say shields backed by spears) you could pick up a single man sized model and hurl it down the middle of the two ranks knocking both the shieldmen and spearmen models down as the 25mm base would affect both ranks... agreed?

Presumably if you hurl a cavalry model the 40mm wide base can affect more enemy too as it is thrown, and of course this goes on for other monsters thrown on 60mm bases...

Then I start think really big stuff, with wings; eagles, dragons, fellbeasts , balrog... if you threw these would go by the outstretched wing area?

Interested to learn how you guys are playing with this brutal power attack..

By base size, as it is there to represent how much space a model needs .

Base size is how you're supposed to play it officially. Larger units would allow for more knockdowns but remember they'll typically be thrown a lesser distance as the difference in strength values will be much smaller

If you hurl a cavalry model, do you compare the strength of the rider or mount?
Likewise if you were to hurl a Fellbeast, is it the wraiths Strength or fellbeasts...?

In both cases I am inclined to go with the mount as it would be the bigger heavier component...

I believe that with a mounted model its whichever you choose to hurl as cavalry models are actually 2 seperate units in terms of striking. You choose which to roll against and I would assume this is no different. If you throw the mount then I'd have the rider take a thrown rider test and if you throw the rider then see if the mount flees

Interesting, I had not considered separating them in that fashion...

To be honest I'd never come across it in battle yet but seeing as normal strikes are allocated before rolling to wound (as often times riders and mounts have different defense values) and BPA's replace your normal strikes I assume that they function in the same way

I thought a monster's hurl depended on how much they had to drink..

Yeah I went there.

But back to the question, which is a good one. Like James I hadn't really considered it either. His answer seems logical but I'd have to re-read the rulebook again and check the FAQs.
