HI, i had a tournament last weekend and had the following situation.

the undying on fell beast was 1 inch from the table edge.

:gandalf: Gandalf the grey casted a sorcerous blast on the undying with succes and the distance to move was 6 inch.

There is no answer in the new hobbit rule book about the edge of the table. is it a obstacle or can a sorcerous blast move models of the table?

and when it is a obstacle: how many hits does the undying suffer?

My understanding is that it's an obstacle, and you would suffer the same amount of hits as though you'd hit any sort of solid object- wall, cliff, etc.

I had a look through the most recent FAQ and couldn't find it.

However, it is addressed in the “Best of White Dwarf: Two Towers” magazine and mertaal is correct: treat it as a solid object.

If you ever need proof (and you don’t have the magazine) I posted a picture of the ruling below:

Thanks for finding that very old answer. I think i got that old magazine somewhere with my lotr collection. But with the hobbit a lot of the old standard rules have changed.
I made a lot of mistakes by mixing some new rules and the old rules.

Strange that the mumak can move through that solid object when he stampeded.

Honestly, I don’t think this particular situation has been officially addressed in the Hobbit rules.

In a tournament setting it’s probably best to clarify this notion with the organizers/other players but I believe the majority of the community agrees with the “invisible force field” ruling :)

I once had almost the same situation in another tournament in a semi final.
:gandalf: gandalf the grey did a sourcerous blast on my :galadriel: galadriel protectres of lotlorien and she failed to resit and in that tournament the organisation said the model was blasted of the table. I lost the semi final because of that decision.

In this situation it was another organisation and the model was not blasted of table.

I'd normally always imagine the edge of a table to be composed of sheer mountainsides or something along those lines. As model cannot normally move off the table (probably not mentioned in the rules, but I hope we can all agree on that), I don't see why it would suddenly be allowed to be moved off the table involuntarily.
If it is seen as an obstacle, models can be trapped due to the board edge, and indeed slammed against it with a sorcerous blast, hurl or similar powers. Granting the extra damage just as if it was hitting terrain makes sense from that point of view, and could compensate for the fact that, had there not been a table edge, the thrown model could have hit more other models.

Agree with all of the above - great post Coenus, that's certainly the way I see/play it.
