I was saying last Sunday and we were unsure of this rule.
If say evil calls a heroic shoot in the shoot phase, can good counter it no matter where the hero countering is on the board? It doesn't make sense to abide by the same six inch rule as other heroics.

I don't think the 6" rule exists anymore, though its stuck in my head.
Heroics are called at the start of the phase, each player decides to perform their own or not at this time. If both players wish to, place an order on which models will perform the action first, alternating players obviously. Then roll off, 1-3 evil does his heroic first, 4-6 good does it. If you tie them up or kill them, then they can't do the heroic and forfeit it. Sticking by the rules, I believe you would then move on to the model designated #3, so one player may find themselves exceptionally annoyed in one turn if all their heroics are cancelled before they can perform them.

Pretty sure the rule of 6" does apply. Heroic shoot will apply to all bowmen within 6" of the hero calling it. I'd be very surprised if it didn't say it in the heroic shoot description.

I'm confused by this question. The OP seems to be suggesting that you can only counter a Heroic Action if you are within 6" of the opposing model who called their Heroic Action. Is this what you're asking LOTBR? If so this is entirely incorrect and has never been a rule in SBG for any Heroic Actions.

I think we are talking/confused about different things.
My original post was correct, as I just re-read the hobbit rules. You always have the option to counter, though you may not get a chance to do so if you are charged or killed, which would prevent most heroic actions like normal. Both players choose heroics, place an order of who will move, then decide who goes first with 1-3 evil, 4-6 good as per normal.
For some reason over the years I had been playing that you can only call a counter heroic move if your hero is within 6" of the enemy. I assumed that the OP was referring to this in their post, which is why i stated the 6" rule no longer exists. In fact it never existed from what I can see and what Dr Grant suggests. I'm not sure why, as I can't seem to find it in any of the older rule books. Maybe it was just from using Gothmog or some old FAQ.
Anyway, the 6" "with me" etc part of the heroic action still exists. Just read the rulebook and it will describe it quite clearly for you.
