So if I have an army of 12 hunter orcs, and they dismount, and all the Wargs stay... is my break point now 12 models or still 6?

Thanks

Still 6. Cavalry models count as 1, even when dismounted.
I believe that you would break after losing 6, even though you would have 18 miniatures on the table

I think you would break after 6 wargs+6 riders have died.
So you need 6 full cavalry dead.
If 10 wargs and only 5 riders are dead, you are not yet broken.
But this is a difficult question, and not entirely sure.
Should be FAQed.

yes i would agree, the rider and his mount if it stays on the table must both die to count as 1 towards your breaking point pal

Your breakpoint would actually be 7, regardless of how many wargs stay around. Remember to be broken your break limit has to be exceeded. So 12/2 = 6 + 1 is 7.
When 7 are dead, you're broken.

Southy's right, your Break Point is calculated at the start of the game and doesn't change. Your 12 model army has a Break Point of 6. When you exceed your Break Point you are broken so your opponent would need to kill 7 models to Break you.

However, something has just occurred to me, I'm surprised this hasn't come up before but if you dismount a model on a horse, the horse doesn't count as a casualty towards your Break Point so nor should a Warg if it fails its courage test. However, if the Warg passes its Courage Test then it stay on the table alongside the rider and can be killed - does it then count as a casualty towards your Break Point?

Furthermore, if it does not, how would you tell riderless wargs apart from unridden Fell Wargs as the game goes on? Southy, you use a Hunter Orc force a lot, what do you do?

Right sorry 7...

Your right about the mount question... it is not very clear... In the case of Azog, say he dismounts does the white Warg count towards your model count? In the options you are sort of paying the cost for Wargs... so.....

These do not count to your breaking point.
So to follow the rules you should trace what rider belongs to what warg.
And only if both of them are dead, it counts as a casualty.

But to me it is too complicated to track all these combinations.
So to make it easier: just combine your dead riders and wargs.
When 7 of each are dead, you are broken.

Sounds the fairest to me, and ofcourse ask your oponent before the game if he is ok with it.

It's quite complicated to explain but I'll do my best.

If the model is forced to dismount due to a spell (Natures wrath etc) and both mount and rider stays, then both count towards my break limit like any other model.

If one half dies, I tend to place the mtd model to one side and replace it with an appropriate model (fell warg, hunter orc etc) and only when that model dies do I place the mtd model in my dead pile...which thinking that through may be wrong...I'll have to have a think.
