1. Can a Hero equipped with a banner voluntarily drop the banner in-game so he can fight normally?

2. Can a Hero be equipped with both a spear and a banner at the same time, and use the spear to support?

I'll be taking Halbarad with Arwen's banner to Stockport tomorrow, but as with last time I found that the -1 penalty for carrying a banner was a handicap towards the end of a game when I was having to commit him to combat. Being able to drop the banner at a crucial (desperate) moment in the end-game would make him much more flexible.

Plus I want an excuse to show off the magnetized arms that UKFB gave my model.

I don't think your allowed to drop the banner

The rules don't say you can't carry other wargear with a banner

No, I''m pretty sure you can't drop any kind of war gear.

And yes, you can give a warrior equipped with a banner a spear, or shield, or bow, and any other war gear that's available to them with the Hobbit rules. They still get the -1 to their dual rolls though.
