ok it happens again... i`ve got another question...sorry guys

Just an simple one:

How big is the difference between the "starter rulebook" (included in the MoM) and the "one
rulebook to rule them all"?

Is there any difderence?

Help would be appreciated once more :lol:

As far as I know the rules in MoM are the same, but the big rulebook has far more profiles than MoM. Additionally, I'm not sure if MoM gives descriptions of all the spells and special rules, which are described in the big book.

Since it sounds like you've already been playing for a while, my recommendation is to get the big book since MoM is really aimed at getting people started. It's nice, and I think it's a good deal, but if you don't want or need any of the figures then I'd just go for the big book instead.

The hardback book has served me very well ever since I got it well over 2 years ago and it's still in great condition. That's another point to look at, it will keep much better than the MoM book. One stupid mistake, though, is that the big book dosen't have the King of the Dead rules and MoM does. But that's the only thing that the MoM book has an upper-hand in.

I recomend the hard-back myself.

The MoM book keeps very well-I've had mine ever since I started about three years ago and it's still all in one piece, despite looking like someone dropped a nuclear bomb on it. :shock:

Odd, all the people I know who have the MoM book have it in bad condition and they've only been collecting for about as long as me.

So far my mom book has kept up well, I think the key might be that I have a seperate piece of paper with the wound chart and the other charts so I don't actually look in the book very often.

The mom rulebook only has less profiles, it has all the spells in it, but it obviusly does not have the special rules for the profiles that are missing. :lol:

since these profiles are all in at the GW website i guess thats not a problem

have ordered mine over Amazon.. (had a gift certificate to use..)

ok new question :-D

this is a little the same question as in another thread here..

ok so i just happend to get a Gollum, and just looked at the ROTK (still arghh this is getting annoying :o but my new rulebook is coming..) and saw that there was no entry for wargear
on Gollum (and he doenst have any weapon as we know..) so does this mean that he has a dagger (even though he doenst have anything at alll) and get the minus in combat?
Personnaly i think he is quite good at fighting without any wargear.. so mabye he should count
(like the mumak) as having "Natural weapons" (i.e Fangs, ect) :lol:

Is this covered in the new rulebook?

Help appreciated...

Yes in the big rulebook it is covered he doesn`t count as unarmed.

He uses his hands and teeths to kill.

He strangles orcs for food (in the hobbit for example).

Also a big difference bitween the mom and big blue rulebook,
is that the big rulebook has some painting guides, some "extra" rules (boats), and some hobby tips.

The only real place I'd say the MoM trumps is how easy it is to carry. 8) I've been playing for 4 years now and have been doing so with the MoM rule (every time I've been ready to put money to picking up the OR book I find I need more models instead. :rofl: ).

The light-weight paperback goes easily with me to work right along my laptop so I always had it for a quick reference or drops into my game kit bag when I'm ready to play. I have borrowed the OR book from friends over time and really do want to get a copy eventually because of so much of the "extras", and for anyone not specifically needing the plastic Goblins and/or Fellowship models then the OR is the way to go. But the MoM has held up so well and served amazingly as a light weight, easily portable companion for so many years I just had to pipe in my support. :D

(Slightly off-topic side-note): If anyone wants to talk about a rule-book that falls apart, the small paperback one that comes with the Flames of War "Open Fire" starter set begins to loose pages from the spine with 48 hours of being opened. And it's such a wide spread issue that I have not met a single gamer yet in person or online that hasn't been thru it and have seen some amazingly creative ways of managing it. But THERE's a rulebook that will drive you mad if the pages start to drop... :?

So.. new questions people.. :twisted:

I just happend to get into "sieging" (if that is a word :-D ) the other day..

So... with a Balrog and siege (i know that doesnt happen to often but just suppose so... like in Gondolin..) mine has a whip and just CANT get into base contact with the gate! The whip or the tail or the Wing is always somehow in the way. This problem also occurs when the Balrog is playing against a big monster such as Treebeard..

So what should i do? Ignore the whip and just "supose" he is in the right position? Somehow this seems wrong...



OK a real rule question here.

The Balrog (not having a strenght of 10) cannot attack walls or towers.

So how can he ever get inside a castle? Same with other big models... The gate is too small and the walls to thick... so cant he ever get in?

Oh my god! :shock: why didnt i think of that! Thanks hithero... :rofl: now that you say it its sorta obvious.

But what about the other question? If the Balrog wants to fight, say, treebeard and cant get into base to base contact? Or against a siege engine?

If he gets beaten he then only backs away 1 cm right? So as if he was beaten and would have been in base contact he would end up on the same spot... somehow..

Ok another one about siege here... :-D

If a demolition charge is set off.... does it count as having strenght 20 i.e being able to make double wounds on the batter chart?

In the rulebook it just says:

The one rulebook to rule them all wrote:
Even walls and towers suffer D6 woundsnfrom demolition charges- roll once on the battering chart for each wound inflicted.


So... does a "4" for example on the D6 counts as inflicting 1 or 2 batter points? Some help please :)
