If you attack a mounted enemy you can either attack the horse, warg or what ever he's riding on or the rider himself. So does that mean that you actually need a foot version for every mounted model in your force? That would be quiet annoying :-X

In theory yes, you need a foot model for each mounted model, in case the horse is killed.

I've found though that having 1 foot model for every 4 or 5 mounted models is usually plenty. You need one for each unique model though (e.g. heroes, banner bearers etc.).

Thanks. Well i guess on normal warriors it doesnt make sense to knock their horses out if you can kill the rider himself instead...

Sometimes, like with shooting, you don't get a choice. Whether you hit the mount or rider is determined by a die roll.

Depends on the relative Strengths and Defence, quite often its easier to kill the horse.

Generally speaking, there's a good chance that you'll lose a couple of foot troops before you lose your cavalry, so the dead guys can serve double duty in case a horse here or there gets killed.

It's really not a problem for any hero other than the new Faramir, as far as I can tell, since all of them have an equivalent foot figure that is readily available (usually packaged in the same blister).

Ye, thanks but i actually meant its annoying to buy another model for each mounted.... So i mean in mass.

Oh yeah, I gotcha. What I'm saying is that, for most models, you're probably already going to have a foot equivalent simply due to collecting the same army. For example, if you play Rohan chances are you have plenty of warriors of Rohan on foot, so you don't have to worry too much about specifically having 1 per rider of Rohan.

Same thing goes for knights of Minas Tirith, Easterling kataphrakts, Haradrim raiders, and warg riders.

The only tough ones are cavalry like the new plastics, or Rohan royal guard, who have expensive metal models on foot.

LOL, I was going through the same dilemma whilst painting up my new Rohan army recently. It's a relief to hear from the veterans here that it's apparently not too much of a problem.
