Post subject:  What a warband can consist of?

Hi, this is my first question, and I'm also quite new to SBG so this may already have been covered.

Looking in the new sourcebooks I am confused about how the warbands work with regards to how many models they can contain. It says a hero and 12 warriors, yet in the examples containing cavalry they only have 6 models? Do the horse and rider each count as a separate model and therefore you can only have 6. Or can you have 12 mounted warriors, e.g. Galadhrim Captain (mounted) and 12 Galadhrim Knights?

Also following on from that, how would it work with a contingent of riderless wargs, can you have 12 per warband or only 6?

Sorry if that's a silly question, I just couldn't seem to find any clarification in the sourcebooks and as the rule book is older it has nothing about warbands.

Regards, Adam

I think the reason GW only shows 6 Cavalry models is that they only come in boxes of 6. It says 12 warriors, and all Cavalry models count as a single model.

I would hope so, because for my Isengard force I have an allied warband of Moria Wargs and I have 12, I don't want to have to get a second warg chieftain to lead them.

They were also quite unclear of how "monster" units worked, so im guessing a monster just counts as 1 unit for a warband? :x

It's pretty straightforwarde, yeah - 12 of anything. I assume you could have 12 cave trolls if you really wanted.

There are either warriors or heros. If it doesn't have any might, it's a warrior. Simple as that.

Not quite - if that were true, orc drummers would be warriors.

Fine, let me rephrase: it doesn't have Might, Will or Fate (and you know what I mean), it's a warrior.

I have not got my book yet, but nevertheless trying to rebuild old army with new rules. So the question is: Can a hero lead warband with cavalry and infantry models mixed? Or we have only mounted hero and 0-12 mounted guys and footman hero with 0-12 footmen?

A hero can lead anything as long as he isn't an Independent hero, be the monster, infanty=try, cavalry in any combination. The only exception is artilery, I think.

Ya, you can only have one artillery piece per warband.
