Hey all, I was just wondering if Dwarf Shieldbearers can lead Warbands in the new rules. I know some of the other "lesser" Heroes like Easterling Dragon Knights and Rangers of the North can't. I have 225 Dwarves, but only 9 Heroes currently, so I'm looking for more... |

Are they effected by the independent character rule? If not, then yes they can but if they are, they can't and must be on their own. |

The answer is yes they can lead warbands: They are not Independent characters. In fact none of the Dwarf characters are ICs. Hope it helps! |

and if you're still short on hero's you can always convert a dwarven warrior to become a Captain. Just make him stand out and all will be good. - |

Ok, that's a relief! I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a Dwarf Commanders set, but at least it's 4 minis I don't have (I've got 3 of the other Captain without shield and 2 of the other banner bearer.) The price is high, but it's not like it's going down nor can I get those minis (easily anyway) in metal anymore. Thanks all for your help. My main concern was switching it up and not just having a dozen Dwarf Captains on the field. |

Dwarves are an odd lot. Suspiciously cheap troops with extreamly expensive hero's. Does it even out? Hard to say. But named leaders pack a much bigger punch than generics, so if your going to drop a load of points on a capitain, might as well make them a named hero who can take on hoards of anything and win on a 6. |

None of the dwarven heroes are overpriced. The most expenisve ones more than make up their price. Durin has a war horn, the KC has TWO banners and Dain has a 12in standfast with 7 courage. Next to elves dwarves have the most underpriced units in the game. |

I already have all 3 named 3rd Age Heroes (Dain, Balin and Gimli) as well as 2 Dwarf Kings and 4 Captains (one of which I'm converting into a Shieldbearer using a Warhammer Chaos Marauder shield.) I've never even seen Floi or the King's Champion in a store, and I haven't seen their SBG stats either. Durin and Mardin don't really appeal to me though. |

Durin and Mardin are both Third Age dwarves, assuming of course that Durin represents Durin IV-Durin VII |

Durin may take offense to standing side-by-side with the upstart King Dain, lol. I also had forgotten about Murin and Drar, who I suppose I should keep an eye out for. Damn shame that they can only collectively lead 11 troops, though... |

My dwarf army at 800pts is led by gimli, dain, balin and a captain with throwing weapons. No need for super heroes until 1000pts as balin n gimmers are F6, Dain F5. Then mass your troops in. |

Then mass your troops in. Aye, but I've got some 225 Dwarves as it is, plus I need some more Khazad and Iron Guard... I think I worked it out that I'll have 240 all told, so I'll need 20 Heroes. |

That story really sparked my passion for all things Tolkien, and the stubborn and strong Dwarves really resonated with me. And I do have other armies. About 160 Goblins, 90 or 100 Uruk-hai and many more. It's just that I can't resist when I see Dwarves at a bargain price, so I've picked up big lots of plastics for cheap. The sad truth is that I'll certainly be buying at least a couple boxes of Dain's Iron Hills Dwarves when GW releases them for The Hobbit range. |
