Hi,
When gaming the other day my opponent used pippin to throw a stone. The new source book states he has this ability and says to see main rule book but I couldnt find it anywhere. We played it just as a normal thrown weapon, strength 3, range 6 etc but just wanted to check if this is correct.

I don't have my books to hand but I'm pretty sure it's this:

If the Hobbit doesn't move he can declare he is ‘stooping for a stone’ and, if he is not engaged in combat, may throw it in the shoot phase with a range of 8” and a strength of 1.

I think it's in the BRB on Bilbo or Frodo's page, right near the start of the Shire section.

I've seen one kill a Cave Troll before...

It's on page 78, under Hobbit special rules. But the good Dr has summarized it nicely.

S3 stone throwing by an S2 hobbit would be...so amazing hobbits would be extremely popular.

Yeah, i thought we may have had something wrong when pippin managed to take out an uruk with a shield by throwing a stone!
Thanks for the quick replies.

I've seen one kill a Nazgul. Generally though there's better things to be doing with your Hobbits :P

It would. Just for fun I played that if the roll to wound is greater than the enemies str, the model that was hit is knocked to the ground (assuming they survive of course). The game that I tried it in, they only were able to knock over one uruk-hai before the uruk-hai caught up and slaughtered them. Now if they had been str 3 throwing weapons, that would have been a different story.
