Post subject: | SBG - LOS spells & Cavalry charge bonus |
Hi Guys, had an enjoyable game in the depths of Moria the other night... http://scottswargaming.blogspot.co.nz/2012/11/hold-high-ground-lotr-sbg-battle-report.html A couple of questions cropped up... LOS & spells. Spells need a Line of Sight to target model to be cast. Is this LOS blocked by models in combat between caster and target? I had assumed so, but my opponent pointed out it is 'true LOS', so since he had Gandalf on horse, he claimed he could see over the combat between his own mounted Knight fighting one of my Giant Spiders , to Spider queen beyond. I wasn't sure but allowed it, but wanted to check here. Again I guess this LOS issue would crop up also in a similar way for declaring a charge, where a combat is between a charger and 'chargee' Cavalry gets an extra attack and knock down bonus... I had always assumed this to be against infantry on 25mm bases (compared to the cavalry's 40mm bases), but rereading of the rules just states they get it against any model 'on foot' - so does it apply against giant spiders, wargs, giant bats (who are not exactly on foot?) etc etc? Any help appreciated. Cheers Scott |

Everything in LOTR is WYSIWYG, everything is exactly as you or a models eye view can see, so a mounted warrior does have better visability than a model on foot. Wargs etc that are not cavalry models are models on foot and may therefore be knocked down by cavalry charges. |

Indeed, if they are not a 'cavalry' model, and don't have strength 6 (iirc) they get knocked down and the extra attack against them. Base size does not matter. And for magic, there is no 'in the ways'; so, as long as you can see part of the model you want to target (from the casters point of view), you can cast on him. |

Quote: Indeed, if they are not a 'cavalry' model, and don't have strength 6 (iirc) Please note that S6 only can't be knocked down. A charge bonus of +1 attack still applies unless the model is a Fell Beast. You even get an extra attack if charging a Spider Queen or a Dragon who have already charged (even though their rules state that they gain bonus as if they were cavalry, they are not classes as cavalry and so a cavalry charge bonus still applies against them). |

Ah yes, thanks for mentioning that. I haven't actually played with cavalry/MM's a lot, so some of those intracacies are not in my head. |
