Hi people,

Just building my new Rohan Army for gaming purposes and was chatting to the guy in my local GW. I need to get the Kingdoms of Men source book (which is fine) but he also said I will need the new Hobbit Rule book to play the game in its fullest form!! I have the old ROTK rulebook, it has been many years since I have played.
In a nutshell do I need the Hobbit book?
Cheers and peace.

Yes.

The fluff in it is always worth a read, various rules have changed since then and obviously it will affect your games if you are to play against someone who knows the most recent rules, if you intend to play with someone you know with the same rules as you then maybe not.

It will also have the profiles of the enemies you are likely to face so you know how to counter them and how to plan against them.

Also it helps fund GW which will mean they stay interested in the LOTR brand a little longer, which is all good news for all of us.

yes. Either the hardback version or the small paperback version from EfGT will suit your needs. The small ones are on ebay, I wouldnt pay any more that £20 for a copy though.

The RotK rules are pretty dated. They were replaced a long time ago by the One Ring rulebook (mini version included in the Mines of Moria starter). If you at least had the One Ring (blue) version of the rules you'd only be missing the new features introduced in the Hobbit book (special monster attacks, new weapon options, some spell changes, etc.).

Considering you are that far back though I'd recommend you catch up. You can track down the new mini book at a reasonable price so I'd suggest it. Or go in with a friend or three and get the new hard back book or the EfGT starter set and split it up.
